What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?

We wake up, get work, go back home and rinse and repeat – or at least it feels that way sometimes.  In truth, there are a million moments in between where we interact with others and we can’t help but wonder what folks will think about us once we aren’t showing up, perhaps once we are gone. Some very thoughtful members of the community share their thoughts on this with us below.

When I’m gone, I hope people say I was a powerhouse, someone who showed up fully, led with purpose, and made things happen. I want to be remembered as a connector, someone who brought people together and made them feel seen. But more than that, I hope they say I was deeply caring. Read more>>

When I’m gone, I hope the story people tell about me is that I loved my community and poured myself into it in every way I could. That I lived with honesty and integrity, and that I used my time and talents to bring people together, whether through a plate of cinnamon rolls, organizing a market, or helping small businesses find their place to shine. That we did everything out of love. For example there was a Lupita’s tacos here in downtown Topeka that had the same name “Lupita’s tacos”. When we first opened we received lots of love from customers who believed we were the same company and the same family ! The amount of people who have shared what that restaurant meant to them. I hope my parents would say I was a blessing—someone who made them proud not just through accomplishments, but through the way I loved and honored them. I pray my spouse would say I loved her fully, fiercely, and without apology—that my love was a safe place, a constant, and a joy. Read more>>
