Story & Lesson Highlights with Angela Janssen

We recently had the chance to connect with Angela Janssen and have shared our conversation below.

Angela, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day usually begin with coffee. This time of year, I love sitting out on my screened-in porch to soak in the cool morning air. After a bit of quiet, I check my emails and ease into computer work or whatever task needs my attention.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Angela Janssen, one of the owners of stem, a full-service beauty salon with two locations. We’ve built something that feels really special a space that’s warm, relaxed, and welcoming to everyone.

At stem, we’re all about helping people feel like the best version of themselves, without the pressure or pretense. Our team is talented, down-to-earth, and genuinely passionate about what they do. Whether it’s a fresh cut, glowing skin, or just a little time to recharge, we want every visit to feel like a breath of fresh air.

Right now, we’re focused on growing our community and continuing to offer services that feel thoughtful and personal. stem isn’t just a salon it’s a place where people come to feel good, inside and out.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Growing up, I didn’t think I was traditionally smart. That belief stuck with me for a long time. But over the years, I’ve come to understand that intelligence shows up in so many different ways. For me, it’s in how I connect with people, how I solve problems, and how I build things that matter. One of my real strengths is being a planner and a visionary. I love seeing the big picture, imagining what’s possible, figuring out what needs to happen next, and bringing it all together.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
How to dig deep. It fueled my determination and shaped my goals in ways comfort never would have. When things were hard, I learned to keep going. I learned resilience, grit, and how to trust myself even when the path wasn’t clear.

Success feels good, but suffering built my foundation. It gave me perspective, empathy, and a fire that still drives me today.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say I care deeply about being authentic. I don’t pretend to be someone I’m not, and I value honesty in the people around me. Integrity and trust mean everything to me, if I say I’ll do something, I follow through. And even though I’m grounded in those values, I also love a good adventure. I’m always up for trying something new, exploring a new place, or stepping outside my comfort zone. That mix of realness and curiosity is just part of who I am.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I’m gone, I hope people say I was a powerhouse, someone who showed up fully, led with purpose, and made things happen. I want to be remembered as a connector, someone who brought people together and made them feel seen.

But more than that, I hope they say I was deeply caring. That I loved hard, protected fiercely, and made life feel a little lighter and more fun. That I was adventurous, always chasing new experiences and encouraging others to do the same.

I hope when people think of me, they remember someone who loved deeply. A devoted mother, wife, and friend who poured everything into her family and built a life that meant something. I want to be remembered for living with intention, for leading with heart, and for finding joy in the everyday moments.
