Meet Justin Hudson of Birdies Indoor Golf

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Hudson.

Hi Justin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey started in 2009 in the labor field under the guidance of my father and his own construction company. With all of the experience and knowledge he had built over the years, I took in as much as I could. In 2017, after about 8 years of learning all I could I was allowed the opportunity to takeover the family business. Between residential and commercial concrete/excavation, things were always fair. Busy for 9 months, slower for 3. Often my thought was “what could I be doing that keeps me busy in my slower season?” Plenty of other avenues were looked at but no option ever really felt solid. That is until the indoor golf idea was brought to me from one of my great friends (Adam Woods). We moved forward with what we had hoped would be something for everyone to enjoy. Turns out we were right. But not with just the idea and business side of it. The part that people don’t include into a business plan is the level of humanity you bring to the table. Golf is so wide spread with people from all types of backgrounds. The sport itself is relatable to life. One bad shot or hole doesn’t define your round. Your willingness to fix it and move past it does. We wanted people to have a place to simply let loose and work through whatever the day may have had in store. All while playing a course they may never get to make it to in real life. The vibe and the genuine connections made with our Birdies family are more important than any dollar amount.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The summer after we opened was probably the roughest. Not enough footing in the community or solid foundation. Year 2 summer, Roy Hart Jr slid perfectly into the scene and was already looking into the indoor golf scenario and off of whim had shared interest in becoming a part of what was being created. Timing was impeccable. Meeting him and his excitement to be involved really lit the fire in me again and we evolved what we had into something that couldn’t have been drawn up.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

What do you like and dislike about the city?
We have been very blessed from the support of the local businesses and Chamber of Commerce. They have really allowed us to build a foundation and a continued chance to grow. Don’t have anything necessarily I don’t like about our city.
