Today we’d like to introduce you to Ann Muraya.
Hi Ann, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Ann Muraya, God’s favorite child. I’m originally from Kenya, and my journey has been guided by faith, favor, open doors of opportunity, and a deep love for people and their well-being. I came to the U.S. in 2007, filled with hope and determined to make a difference somehow. I earned my RN from Penn Valley Metropolitan College, followed by my BSN from Northwest Missouri State University, and I’m on track to graduate in 2026 with a Master’s as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. My quest for growth is never-ending, and I remain passionate about using every opportunity to serve, uplift, and make a meaningful impact in the lives of others.
In 2015, while seeking a flexible nursing role, I stepped into the adult day care field, not realizing I was walking straight into my calling. Over time, I fell in love with the impact this work had on families and the community. In 2018, my husband, Dr. Patrick, and I took full ownership of Truman Ridge Adult Day Center, transforming it into a cozy 10,000-square-foot, state-licensed facility with a capacity of 90 participants daily.
It hasn’t been without challenges, but every step has strengthened my vision: to create a safe, compassionate space where adults and seniors thrive, stay healthy, and feel truly cared for. Today, Truman Ridge is more than a center—it’s a community rooted in kindness, grace, and service.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all—like many meaningful journeys, mine has been filled with challenges that have shaped who I am today as a leader, caregiver and provider.
One of the greatest hurdles has been building a truly selfless, emotionally intelligent team—people who share in the vision, understand the heart of service to others, and are willing to go above and beyond to meet the needs of those we care for without expecting anything in return. It is not always easy to find these kinds of individuals, and creating that culture takes time and discernment.
Another challenge has been educating and empowering families, particularly around managing lifestyle diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular conditions. Many of the people we serve face barriers to healthy food access or struggle with mental health challenges that impact their overall well-being, making this an ongoing journey of support and advocacy.
Yet every challenge has refined me, strengthened my resolve, and reminded me why I do this work—to serve, uplift, and create a safe, nurturing place for those who need it most.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Truman Ridge Adult Day Center?
Truman Ridge Adult Day Center is a state-licensed facility in Kansas City dedicated to providing compassionate, individualized care for adults and seniors with disabilities. We offer transportation, nutritious meals, health monitoring, medication support, and engaging activities that help participants stay healthy, independent, and socially connected. What sets us apart is our culture of kindness and dignity—we treat every participant like family, not just a client. At Truman Ridge, we’re most proud of creating a safe, welcoming space where adults and seniors are truly seen, valued, and celebrated every day.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I surround myself with positive energy and uplifting material, often turning to Bible stories and teachings for strength and guidance. My favorite listens are those hosted by or featuring Priscilla Shirer, Michelle Obama, Mellody Hobson, Bozoma Saint John, Emma Grede, Jay Shetty and the like—voices that inspire me to lead with purpose and resilience. Currently, I’m reading a book gifted to me by a dear friend, The Divine Matrix by Gregg Braden, a reminder that I am the architect of my own reality. I therefore use daily affirmations to stay focused and silence self-doubt.
