Inspiring Conversations with Paul Sanchez of La Paz Family Chiropractic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Sanchez.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It all started with a dream.

My family immigrated from La Paz, Mexico when I was about a year and a half old. They came to the United States with a simple but powerful goal: to change the trajectory of our family’s life. We settled in St. Joseph, Missouri, chasing opportunity and a better future after living a difficult life back home.

Growing up, family was everything. I was surrounded by cousins, aunts, and uncles, and although I was a shy kid, I quickly became the translator for my family. That’s where my bilingual background came from—helping people communicate and navigate life in a new country. Looking back, that was my first introduction to serving others.

Life wasn’t always easy. We moved between apartments and houses while my parents worked hard to provide for us. I spent most of my childhood in private school, which gave me a strong foundation in faith. But even though I believed in God, I didn’t fully live that faith out until much later in my life.

Sports became a huge part of my identity growing up. They gave me confidence, purpose, and direction. I trained hard, competed hard, and eventually had the opportunity to run track at Missouri Western State University as part of their first track program. Later I even walked on to the football team. Sports gave me incredible memories, friendships, and life lessons—but deep down, there was still a sense that something was missing.

Ironically, my first introduction to chiropractic was nothing extraordinary. I hurt my back during a workout, went to a chiropractor, got adjusted, felt better, and moved on. At the time, it didn’t feel like a life-changing moment.

That changed during my junior year of college.

One day in class, my professor asked a simple question: “What do you want to do after graduation?” As we went around the room, people shared plans to become physical therapists, athletic trainers, and occupational therapists. When it was my turn, something inside me said, “Chiropractor.”

Honestly, I didn’t have some dramatic story behind it. But that moment planted a seed.

Soon after, I toured Cleveland University in Kansas City with my mom, and something immediately felt right. The environment, the students, the philosophy—it just felt like home. That’s when the dream truly began.

Chiropractic school challenged me in ways I never expected. During my first year, I failed a class for the first time in my life. It was humbling and forced me to really decide if this was the path I wanted. I chose to keep going.

Then life accelerated.

In my second year, my girlfriend and I found out we were expecting our daughter. We were young, still figuring life out, living in a small apartment—but that moment changed everything. Our daughter became a blessing that pushed us to grow up fast and take life more seriously.

Around that same time, I also failed my first board exam. It hurt financially and emotionally, but it taught me resilience. I’ve always been a little stubborn—in the best way—and quitting was never an option.

Through it all, my faith started to deepen.

In my final year of chiropractic school, I went on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic with the Christian Chiropractic Association. That experience changed my life. Seeing communities with so little, yet so much gratitude and joy, humbled me deeply.

One moment stands out clearly. A pregnant woman walked in with her three children, and I was nervous to adjust her. But in that moment, I stopped trying to control everything and simply trusted the training in my hands and the faith in my heart.

That’s when it clicked.

Chiropractic wasn’t just about pain or injuries—it was about restoring life, serving people, and honoring the body the way God designed it.

That mission trip reignited my faith and gave my career a deeper purpose.

Soon after, life kept moving quickly. My grandmother passed away just months before I graduated—one of the hardest losses our family has faced. Around the same time, my girlfriend and I got married, continuing to build the life we had started together.

Through every challenge, my wife, my family, my mentors, and my faith carried me forward.

As graduation approached, I originally planned to buy into an existing practice. But life had other plans. A few months before graduating, everything shifted, and instead we decided to start something of our own.

That’s how La Paz Family Chiropractic was born.

The name is a tribute to where my family came from and the journey that brought us here. Today, my mission is simple: serve families, restore hope, and help people experience the healing power that chiropractic care can bring—not just physically, but in every part of life.

Because what started as my family’s dream…
has now become my calling.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been rough at times that’s for sure. 1st year I failed my first class which has never happened in my educational career so that ego checked me! The second year we decided to have a baby girl and that was a blessing in disguise but also a responsibility! I also failed my first chiropractic board exam so right away I felt like I wasn’t worthy or smart enough to be a chiropractor. 3rd year my grandmother died and that hurt our family very emotionally. Later that year I graduated and got married.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
La Paz Family Chiropractic is a family owned business in Kansas City Missouri. We specialize in pediatric and prenatal chiropractic care with a focus on nervous system regulation! I am a bilengual doctor and have had a passion for family chiropractic care and helping babies develop into healthy adults! What sets us apart is our commitment to providing thorough and authentic care that focuses on the family’s needs and concerns. We do this by listening to their concerns and taking a through history. And we relate it back to the nervous system and the importance of getting adjusted! How do we measure and explain this you may ask? We take 3 neurological stress scans from CLA Insight technologies: HRV, Thermography, EMG. This helps us detect and set a plan to improve and regulate the bodies autonomic functions. We are looking specifically for subluxations or bio mechanical & neurological stress patterns in the spine. This helps us understand and identify the root cause of your concerns! I am most proud of the name behind our brand. La Paz means so much to me and it is sort of a double entendre. It means “the peace” in Spanish which is what I want everyone of my practice members to feel when they come into my office. It is also the place in Mexico I was born in. So it pays homage to my roots and my purpose!

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I like to sing all the time. Even though I am not the best at it. I sing in the car and karaoke at times with my family!
