Daily Inspiration: Meet Pitter Patter Carpentry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pitter Patter Carpentry. Them and their team share their story with us below:

HISTORY
Pitter Patter Carpentry became a company in 2020 with Clint Zugelder, Sam Dawdy, and Blane Francis. Sam and Blane have been friends for many years. Blane even married her best friend, Sarah, which makes them family. Sarah and Blane moved in across the street from Clint, and they all became close quickly. When COVID hit, Sam began working with Clint, and shortly after, Blane joined the crew, and Pitter Patter was formed!

PERSONAL
PPC is a very tight-knit group. We all have kids the same age, so we see each other on weekends and all week. We wouldn’t be so great at what we do if we weren’t so close. It’s part of what sets us apart. The support from each other and the guys’ spouses keep us going. We genuinely like each other and only want the best for all of us. We are a team, and if one of us hurts, we all do. If one of us succeeds, we all do. That is our mentality.

WORK
Over the last few years, we have refined our scope to fine carpentry. We were doing full remodels when we first started but found that we loved trim, cabinetry, stairs, and flooring. So we ditched the demoing and subcontracting and pursued what brings us joy. Our favorite work to do is custom cabinetry and built-ins. We love to transform a room. Beauty and function are the names of the game. We love to be creative and find solutions to storage, layout, and aesthetics so that your home feels like yours. There’s nothing better than watching our clients get exactly what they wanted, if not more. (It’s usually more). So far, we have operated solely on word of mouth, which has kept us more than busy. We also have several repeat clients that invite us back for 2 or more jobs a year. We are very proud that our clients are so happy they want us back and want to tell people about us. We are a small crew, but we work extremely hard and care about quality.

Would it have been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Owning your own business is never a smooth road; maybe there were 1 or 2 smooth weeks in there can’t remember. Our biggest struggle was managing full remodels. We needed a workforce to manage subcontractors, meet with clients, and do the work. We were being pulled in every direction. So we started pursuing the work that fulfilled us. We got traction quickly and have been steadily growing since.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
PPC is known for high-quality carpentry work. You won’t be able to find anything we build in-store. We love custom builds and innovative designs. Our creative process works almost seamlessly. All three of us are dreamers and doers. It’s not a common combination to find, so we have lightning in a bottle.

Clint has been a carpenter and has several years of engineering work. He can make any design work structurally. He is also a great communicator and teacher. He has a gift for helping people understand the process and the “why” behind the design.

Sam began her career in fashion. After pursuing her dreams in New York, she decided that fashion wasn’t for her. She fell in love with carpentry and has been doing it ever since. Her background in Fine Arts gives her a unique perspective on the construction world. She has a keen eye for balance and proportion.

Blane has been an artist forever. Forever. He can’t help it. He is our energy and our motivator. He constantly exudes art and creativity. He has worked in so many different kinds of genres and mediums throughout his life. If you need help with color, Blane is your man. He is a master of color and texture.

We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
We are risk-takers! We’ve taken on many projects we don’t necessarily specialize in to learn more and add to our portfolio. You have to take risks to grow. For example, we recently installed monorail stairs with large panel glass railings. The stair part is familiar. The glass, not so much. When we take on new things like this, we know we must plan as much as possible. We research the product, read all materials and develop a solid game plan. Worst case scenario, we drop a large piece of glass down 6 flights of stairs and break everything. No biggie! In the end, we finished installing all of the glass in 2 days, we didn’t break anything, and our clients are beyond thrilled. It looks so cool. We meet risks and challenges almost daily in our line of work. It’s our job to complete the project and make it look amazing. We don’t hesitate just because it’s a risk.
