Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb Poorman.
Hi Caleb, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I started out in a small town in Carl Junction. At 16, I was displaced from my home and at 18, my mother passed away from severe illness. Through the end of high school and the beginning of College, I felt a little out of place and lost. The first semester of college, I was given the amazing opportunity to be a Mizzou social media influencer to help promote Covid-19 mask etiquette. I used the platform to raise awareness, gain traction as an influencer, and even grabbed the attention of New York Times and Good Morning America. After that, I realized that I liked the social media world and wanted to pursue other parts of it. I stepped into the world of modeling, walking for YingYingYing in Kansas City fashion Week and grabbing the attention of multiple agencies out of Chicago and St. Louis. Right now, taking a break from modeling, I am currently working on a music hobby, working on growing a following on Spotify with current-day sounding pop music. And here I am!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, it’s been a very challenging road. Being displaced from my home, being homeless for a while, was something that hit me hard. I was eventually taken in by my best friend and his family—I owe them everything. They are my family now. My mother’s death hit all of us pretty hard, and for a while I struggled with motivation. It seemed like every time I got ahead, something terrible happened to push me back even further.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a model, photographer, and singer/songwriter (by the name Marcus). What sets me apart from others is my drive. I can take something little and turn it into something huge. I take an opportunity and use it to boost me and others’ way past expectations. For me, right now I’m most proud of my resilience. I feel like even after I’ve been through the thick of it, I still motivate myself and others to be the best version of ourselves possible.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along the way would have to be never expect things to go right all the time, but don’t be looking for things to go wrong. Life may be challenging at times but always try and look for that silver lining. Life is full of it.
