Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Schimke.
Hi Morgan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always been interested in photography from a young age. In middle school, I took a film photography class and fell in love with the whole process of being able to capture and create images distinctly from your point of view. College, work, marriage, and life happened and I didn’t pick up a camera again until I had my first son. There is just something so special about being able to freeze these fleeting moments in time. I slowly started to take photos of my family and friends until I realized I could parlay my passion for photography into a profession. That is where morgan jane photography was born.
This is from my website bio:
my passion and love for photography is driven by capturing the ‘moments’. the moment your baby is yawning and you’ll never forget that little pout. the moment your kids howl in laughter at each other. the moment you’re about to launch your new career with that great outfit, smile, and confidence in a headshot. the moment between the chaos of life where all four of you are captured in one glorious frame hung above your fireplace.
‘The greatest compliment one could give me would be to let me be a part of your moments’.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Owning and operating your own business has so many great benefits. But, on the flip side, you are the catalyst for your success and your failures.
One of my biggest struggles is figuring out how best to use my time. I’ve been a stay-at-home mom for 8 years, (with the last 3 1/2-4 years taking photographs), and the balance between work and being the primary parent is so tough. It’s a constant struggle of knowing how much time and effort to put into which bucket.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Morgan jane photography is a lifestyle + portrait photographer. Right now, I love to work a wide variety of photography; family, senior portraits, headshots, newborns, fashion, and product photography. I love a relaxed and easy photography session. Family sessions, especially with small children, can sometimes feel hectic and unpleasant. My goal is for everyone to leave feeling calm and happy; as if they just left a play date where they laughed and had fun. I will guide you into a pose, but then use prompts to get you to hug, tickle, laugh and interact with each other to get those ‘natural/lifestyle’ captures. Most people leave my sessions saying ‘thank you for making that so easy and fun!’ And that is a huge win and my main goal in my work!
I’m also known for my mini sessions; which are fun, easy, and quick 15-minute sessions. Most are not theme-driven, but I do have Christmas Truck mini sessions every year. Those are taken on my old Chevy named ‘Emmy’ and are always a huge hit for Christmas cards!
What matters most to you?
I think I have two main goals with my photography sessions… the first one being that my clients enjoy their session time and we leave feeling like old friends. The second goal is for my clients to fall in love with their galleries. Hearing ‘I just can’t stop looking at them!’ is such a great compliment. Or getting screenshots of my work hanging on the walls of their home. I feel honored and grateful every single time someone chooses me to capture their moments.
