Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi! I’m Jennifer McCall!
I’m a wife, a mom, and a pretty skilled button pusher. I have 3 adorable, crazy kiddos, and a special needs brother who my husband and I take care of! We just recently moved here to Central Missouri in June 2018, all the way from Washington State. It is quite a change, but I absolutely love it! I love chocolate, music, a good book, and binge-watching Science Fiction & Fantasy shows. To be completely honest, I am highly addicted to peppermint mocha, especially around the holidays.
I love photography almost as much as my family, which let’s be honest, is a lot! It has been a passion of mine since I was old enough to hold a camera. This was long before DSLR cameras. As I grew older, I realized I wanted to make a living doing what I love. I started Jennifer Tru Photography in 2014 and never looked back. I love that I get to do what I love!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, it hasn’t been a smooth road! When I moved to Missouri in 2018, I had to completely restart my business from the ground up. Some days, it still feels like a struggle.

I specialize in Wedding Photography servicing the greater Kansas City area, and beyond. My photos have a contemporary & elegant aesthetic. I capture portraits that are full of life, laughter, and love!
They are crisp, clear, and have true-to-life color. I love meeting couples and helping them get the best out of their photography experience. I team up with their vendors, creating a seamless timeline that gets everyone on the same page for a flawless Wedding experience! I also love that my couples turn into lifelong friends. Weddings truly have my heart.
What sets me apart from others is my quality of service, high-quality portraits, and my quick turnaround time. I’m known for delivering galleries within 3 days of a Wedding Day and becoming fast friends with my couples as well as the vendors I work with.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
Not necessarily books or apps. One major resource for me is my photography community! As a member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and their affiliates, the Missouri Professional Photographers Association (MOPPA), and the Professional Photographers of the Ozarks (PPO), I’m always learning & growing! I’m constantly attending seminars, workshops, and conferences.
I love entering image competitions and cheering on my fellow photographers. Image competition is the best education you can get in the photography industry! I highly recommend any and all photographers join their local Professional Photographer Associations. It is such a big help in both personal and professional growth.
