Story & Lesson Highlights with Sarah Burtis of Chillicothe mo

Sarah Burtis shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Sarah, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Something that is bringing me joy outside of work right now is holding my first grandson, who was born at 24 weeks back in June, and watching my daughter be such a wonderful little mommy after going through something so scary.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Sarah, and I’m the owner of Styled by Sarah, a beauty studio where I specialize in both salon services and permanent makeup. My passion has always been helping people feel confident and beautiful in their own skin, and that’s what inspired me to grow my brand. What makes my work unique is the balance I bring between artistry and care—I love creating transformations that are not only stunning but also safe and long-lasting. My journey hasn’t always been easy, but every step has been driven by a love for creativity, connection, and empowering others!

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
The person who taught me the most about work is my mother. She was a single mom who raised four kids while working full time, and she never let us go without. Watching her strength, determination, and work ethic showed me the importance of resilience and dedication, and those lessons continue to guide me every day.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to trust the process and believe in her own strength. Even when things feel overwhelming, everything she’s going through is shaping her into the woman she’s meant to become.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Hah! Oh yes, the public version of me is very much the real me. I’ve always believed in being authentic, whether I’m with clients, colleagues, or family. Of course, like anyone, I have private moments that not everyone sees, but what I share with the world is a genuine reflection of who I am and what I value.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I made others feel beautiful, loved, and cared for—both inside and out. I want to be remembered as someone who worked hard, overcame challenges with strength, and always gave more than she took. Most of all, I hope my story is one of kindness, resilience, and leaving the world a little better than I found it.
