We’re looking forward to introducing you to Mizzou Forte. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Mizzou, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
This past semester, we got the opportunity to host a 20th anniversary concert with many of our alumni. It was an honor to meet some of the people who made the group what it is, and to realize the legacy that we are a part of. It was also so fun to sing with them!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We are Mizzou Forte, the University of Missouri’s premiere co-ed acapella group. We have compete in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella each year, perform at various campus events, and host a few concerts every year. We sing a variety of music, like pop songs and musical theatre.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
The cool thing is, with some music major and some people who have never read music in their life, we are able to learn from each other a lot throughout the semester. We’ve had people from all corners of our campus come in and audition, and we can learn something new from every single one of them.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
A few years ago, the group was down to 2 people. However, luckily, the small but mighty group was able to reach out to Mizzou again and bring a lot of new faces to Forte. We are forever grateful to them for keeping it alive. Shoutout Paige and Marysa!
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
What really matters to us is our community. We all come from different backgrounds and areas of music experience, but at the end of the day, we’re able to come together and make music that we all like. We’ve built a great section of Mizzou that allows us to be creative and have fun with each other, while making sure it doesn’t interfere with our academics.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What will you regret not doing?
Honestly, nothing. We have so many ideas for the future of this group, but we are really proud of what we have accomplished. We’ve been a full group since 2005, and in that time we’ve travelled all over Missouri, created successful social media pages, had a few reunion concerts throughout the years, remained a staple of Mizzou, and even got the chance to record our ICCA set for release last year (coming soon, stay tuned!) We are so proud of all of our members, past and present, and are so grateful to everyone who has supported us throughout this journey.
