Story & Lesson Highlights with Destiny Ladron of Grandview

We recently had the chance to connect with Destiny Ladron and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Destiny, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day can often look a little different depending on my mood and what we have planned for the day! As a homeschool mom, some mornings we are rushing out the door for classes and socialization, and some mornings we get to take our time. On a day where I can take my time, the first thing I’ll do is get my kids their breakfast. They like to eat the moment their eyes open. I whip out my tripod and set my phone up to record my process. As a daily content creator, I try to record breakfast or a good morning video as often as possible. We then get into our homeschool learning and make it very fun. While my daughter does her online work, I get my toddler set up with playdough or coloring, and I get to editing my morning vlog. I like to post in real time!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! My name is Destiny. I am a lifestyle content creator who creates content surrounding my motherhood journey. I share real and raw moments, as well as happy moments. I like to be honest and up front with my communities, as I feel it builds a lasting relationship. What makes me special is my ability to share real life moments and not take the judgement too harshly. Whether I am happy as can be, or I am down in the dumps, I always check in with my community and share my thoughts. On top of creating content, I am also a homeschool mom. My oldest is 6, youngest is 3. I prefer to keep my kids close and have control over who they meet, rather than sending them to a classroom all day. It’s not for the weak, and it takes a lot of dedication. On top of that, I also have a cottage bakery. I love being able to choose when I want to set that up, rather than weekly. Any time I need extra funds to pay for something, I set up a bake sale. It always turns out amazing and is a huge help to our family. I love all I do, it is a blessing to stay home and create an income doing exactly what I love!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I was a child, I didn’t have the stability and routine children thrive in. I was bounced from house to house and parent to parent. I never thought I’d amount to anything, as I let all my trauma dictate my life. I believed I would never become anything, and therefore, I chose the party life over academics. I believed nothing good would happen for me, as I didn’t witness greatness much as a kid. I come from mental health issues, anger, and yelling. I didn’t grow up encouraged to be anything but someone who will work hard for the basics for the rest of their life. It wasn’t until I was 25 years old that I realized I do have potential to be better. I started school for my medical assistant certificate, and passed with all A’s. I never used it as I became a mom of another baby, but just passing it meant I was smart. Now, I create content and have learned to monetize my social media. The little girl in me never thought she’d be sharing her life to people who actually WANT to listen. I’m blessed.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has taught me to be resilient. It has taught me how to make something out of nothing. It taught me the value of a dollar. It taught me that no matter how down bad I am, I can get back up and be better. It taught me that you must work hard for what you have, and if everything has been handed to you, you really don’t posses life skills for if something goes wrong. Suffering taught me how to budget and handle inflation in our country. It taught me how to take something that’s $1 and make it look $100. It taught me to appreciate and respect all people, because we are all handed a different card, and all deserve grace. Most importantly, it taught me that I am more than my past. I am capable of changing my life and making it something beautiful.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is sooo the real me. Sometimes I feel I overshare my life and think “no one is going to relate” and then so many people relate. It is a beautiful thing to create an online presence that is real. A lot of content creators share the good parts of their life, because that is generally what people want to see. But, I feel there is longevity in sharing your real life, and you can’t be exposed for your faults when you share them yourself. It actually irks me to know certain content creators lie through their teeth, but all you can do is block and move on!

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I knew I only had 10 years left, I’d stop people pleasing. I’d stop caring to mend relationships with family members who have no desire to support me. I’d live my life to the fullest with my children and my husband, and do it with a huge smile on my face! I tend to want people to like me, and when they don’t, I want to prove them wrong. That’s draining and unnecessary!
