We recently had the chance to connect with Sara Qawasmi and have shared our conversation below.
Sara, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
One of the biggest misconceptions about bridal design, especially custom bridal is that it’s either overly glamorous or outrageously expensive. Many brides assume that “custom” automatically means unaffordable, but that’s not the case with Sara’s Dream Boutique. Custom design allows us to create a gown that fits the bride’s vision, body, and budget in a way that off-the-rack often can’t. Of course, quality fabrics, craftsmanship, and time come at a cost but it’s not about inflating prices, it’s about delivering real value and a deeply personal experience. Behind every gown are hours of design, sourcing patterns, hand beading and hand-finishing. It’s not just about the dress, it’s about creating something meaningful, and making the process feel as special as the wedding day itself.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Mt name is Sara Qawasmi. I’m a bridal designer and the founder of my own namesake bridal brand and boutique, where I create custom and made-to-order wedding gowns that reflect the unique style, body, and story of each bride. What makes my brand truly unique is that I only carry my own designs; every gown in the boutique has been thoughtfully designed by me, with a focus on quality, flattering fit, and timeless-yet-modern style.
While custom design is a big part of what I offer, I also have a RTW (off-the-rack) collection available for brides who want something beautiful and unique without the full custom process. This allows me to serve a wide range of brides and budgets, while still maintaining a cohesive design aesthetic and a deeply personal experience.
I started this brand out of a desire to make bridal feel more intentional and less overwhelming. Every piece is designed with purpose, crafted with care, and created to make brides feel like the best version of themselves. Right now, I’m really focused on elevating the overall bridal experience from the first appointment to the final fitting. I’m refining our design process, enhancing how we educate and support brides through their journey, and exploring ways to make each step feel more meaningful and memorable. I want every bride to walk away not just loving her dress, but feeling seen, heard, and celebrated throughout the entire experience.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I think bonds break when people stop feeling seen, heard, or safe with one another. Whether it’s in friendships, families, or relationships, disconnection usually begins with unmet needs, unspoken truths, or assumptions that go unaddressed. When communication fades, empathy fades and that’s often when things start to go south.
Restoring that bond takes real effort. It requires humility, vulnerability, and a willingness to listen without defense. But more than anything, it takes self awareness and intention; choosing to show up, try again, being honest, and to really see the other person. It’s easier said than done but I believe most bonds can be repaired when both sides are open to rebuilding even if it looks different than before.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I stopped hiding my pain when I realized a lot of people couldn’t handle the truth and looking away just wasn’t in me. For a while, I thought maybe I should be like everyone else and keep quiet when it came to certain things, turn a blind eye and just go along to keep the peace. But every time I tried, it felt like I was betraying myself. Yeah, it pushed some people away, yet this somehow became my strength. What used to make me feel alone started giving me strength because owning the truth and more specifically, my truth, turned out to be the most powerful thing I could do.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
My husband. I admire him because his character speaks louder than any position or power ever could. Despite if he’s been betrayed or done wrong by anyone, he still treats everyone with kindness and respect. He holds onto his values, stands up for what’s right and refuses to let bitterness or betrayal change who he is. He keeps his word, shows compassion without expecting anything in return and carries himself with humility. Watching how he remains true to himself even when others fall short, inspires me and motivates me to always make an effort in being a good person.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely. I do love being recognized, it feels good to be seen and appreciated. But I’ve learned to separate that from why I give my best. I never do something just to earn praise or rewards. I give my all because it’s important to me to act with integrity and put in honest effort. Recognition is a bonus but the real satisfaction comes from knowing I’ve done my best regardless of whether anyone notices or not.
