Hi Trey and Paige Swager, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to introduce yourself.
Hi! We are Paige and Trey Swager, Marigold Weddings’s owners, offering wedding photo, video, and photo booth services in Kansas City and beyond. Marigold Weddings was born of Trey’s film-making expertise and love for documentaries and love. Love and the celebration of commitment that is a wedding is one of the most meaningful experiences in a person’s life. We are so honored to step into the role of capturing these moments for our couples to relive the best day of their lives. Trey has been in the film-making industry since high school and is classically trained in total video production, which positions him to deliver the very best to our clients. I (Paige) had been second shooting and assisting him for a couple of years and decided to up my skills and role in our business by becoming our photographer. I have been fascinated with creating photos since I was young and loved being the one to work hand in hand with our clients up until and through their wedding day. Spearheading the business side keeps the challenges coming, and creating art for my clients is rewarding. We enjoy what we do and strive to keep improving and serving our couples to the utmost of our abilities.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As any business owner and entrepreneur will tell you, creating and running a successful business is hard, and there are many challenges we have faced and will continue to face. Sometimes it’s comical how little I know about certain technical aspects involving creating and managing our website, social media, and client management system. So one seemingly small task will send me down the rabbit hole of youtube tutorials (the 8th wonder of the world) and customer service calls. Ha! But I like learning new things all the time. One challenging aspect is simply being business partners with your other half. We have grown so much as business partners and as a couple through creating Marigold Weddings and are incredibly thankful that this is the life we get to live, this is how we spend our time, and these are the people we get to serve.

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
We laugh at ourselves because we can’t go on a wedding day without shedding a tear at the ceremony. Or during the toasts because of the story of the love and care that the couple shares. We get to tell the story of these two souls who have not only found each other but want to spend the rest of their lives serving, celebrating, and enjoying their partner through our technical skills and art. The photos and videos we create for our clients convey the emotions of not only the day but of the family ties and a hopeful future. We love natural light and utilize a vivid, colorful finish to our final products. But it’s not all about the results. We also love working with our clients and the experience we can provide them on such an important day. It feels so good to coach a couple through their photos and let their personalities shine through, allowing them to enjoy each other and their friends and family.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
Trey is always looking up the best ways to accomplish a new task and utilize all sorts of resources, from online searching to reaching out to our community. I am all about podcasts for motivational content and mindset and photography groups for work-related problem-solving and inspiration. One podcast I credit for getting my butt into gear is “Wild Ideas Worth Living,” I recommend it to anyone wanting to explore what we are capable of. For anyone wanting to try something new or step up their game, surround yourself with others already doing what you want. And it’s easy to do this virtually!
