Rising Stars: Meet Tabaris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tabaris.

Hi Tabaris, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Being from Fayetteville, NC. It’s not much to do here. Most join the military or play sports. Before I started making music, I learned to love it. I grew up within the church, so music was always around. For me, music was my gateway to better understand different emotions. Not only for myself but others.

My father introduced me to different genres of music and hearing artists on the radio just gave me a drive to do the same. I remember hearing Jay Z, Lauryn Hill, Bob Marley, Prince, Oj’s, Cher, Shania Twain, Michael Jackson, etc. Different sounds, different storytelling. That’s what I wanted to resonate with my listeners. I overall was inspired to become better everyday.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing really has come easy. It has been a lot of hard work and timing. Coming from the independent side of the music industry, it is harder. I have to do everything myself most times. This includes self-promotion, Marketing and building my brand each day. For myself my biggest struggle is not having enough time in a day. Outside of music, I have a son. My biggest blessing. Just making sure that my time is all spent on the right items to make a better life for him.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Well, I’m a Music Artist. I have been doing this for about two years now. Within that timeframe, I’ve have gained a base that enjoys what I release. Whether it’s singing or rapping or even a mixture of both. I’m very much appreciative of it. I’m most proud of my growth musically and now having my own clothing line Earth & Water Clothing. It is building my brand more. What sets me apart would be I’m not trying to follow a trend or wave at the moment. I’m building my own line. My goal is to come back to my community to give back and inspire.

What matters most to you?
This is a good question! What matters most to me would be family and time. For me, family is my backbone. We have been through so much words could never express. Also, I have friends I consider family. We look out for one another. Make sure everyone is okay and is in a good state of mind. Time, Time is the only thing you can never get back. As I got older, I understood how valuable time is. The outcome of how you use it can benefit you or break you in the end. Overall, family and time matters to me.
