Today we’d like to introduce you to Star Allio.
Hi star, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in olathe kansas though i’ve lived all over the kansas city metropolitan area as well as a few other states throughout my life. I grew up in a big family having six siblings. Unfortunately the household i grew up in wasn’t very stable and we moved around a lot as a child. My parents started having kids very young and by the time my youngest sibling was 13 they had completely checked out on being our parents. By the time i 16 none of us lived with them anymore. I moved in with my brother and his girlfriend at the time. Finding my path wasn’t always easy and honestly i’m still not exactly sure what i want to do in this lifetime. When i was 18 someone i was friends with at the time took me to a photoshoot and i immediately knew it was something i wanted to do. i grew up being enamored by the internet. loving posting even when i was posting things that didn’t matter. My parents started having sheltered us and despite having rules about us not using social media i always found a way. Now having modeled for almost 4 years i can’t imagine what my life would be without the community i’ve found. All my friends are creatives and lead similar lives to myself. I’ve found so many amazing opportunities through the people i’ve met including being in malls across america for zumiez, modeling for drumstick (yes the ice cream), as well as many local clothing companies. I’m constantly broadening my horizons and trying new ways to explore my creativity through music, art, and social media.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not always been newly paved unfortunately. A lot of the people in my life didn’t understand the path i wanted to take. Working outside the normal 9-5 lifestyle wasn’t always accepted by my family and having to learn how to live the life i wanted was hard whiteout the support i felt i needed. Having moved out of my parents so young and my version of family crumbling before my eyes i didn’t know who i was or what i wanted anymore. I had to learn how to take care of myself at a very young age and often felt alone in my journey. Even now i don’t speak to my parents and have a hard time having healthy relationships with a lot of my siblings. Not feeling accepted by family has been hard but im glad i’ve been able to make a chosen family of people who love and support me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I mainly model in the kansas city area though recently i’ve been learning more about making music and trying to lean into physical media as well. I think when it comes to modeling what sets me apart is my ability to see through the lens without actually seeing through the lens. I see people’s visions and can help bring them to life with my own creativity and understanding of composition and camera work. i think a lot of the time with modeling we can get too self conscious about the way we look and let it get in the way of making true art. i very quickly got over that when i started modeling because i realized everyone has a different vision and all i want to do is be able to bring it to life.
What makes you happy?
My friends make me happy. Growing up in an unstable household often left me feeling extremely lonely. I felt no one could understand the things i’ve been through and no one could understand the person i am now in spite of it. Though as i’ve gotten older and learned to create the life i want to live i’ve found so many likeminded amazing people along the way who have helped me grow in ways i never thought possible.
