Rising Stars: Meet Sotally Tober

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sotally Tober.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It all started when we bought turntables to DJ our friend’s house party. We showed up, blew the front door off of the building, and then word went around that we rocked peoples socks off and we got our first paid DJ gig offer. Right after it, after about 4 gigs we started getting asked to do private events (birhtdays, block parties, weddings, etc.) and gained residency at our first clubs ( Main Street Bar & Grill / Tom & Jeard’s) and then the rest was history now we are out here gigging and jamming every weekend!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been an absolute roller coaster, our first gig we got offered the COVID mandate changed to where bars had to close at 10 o clock at night and we lost a lot of opportunities because of it. Being DJs in the middle of a global pandemic is not ideal but during the last mandate, we stayed on our game, kept emailing/calling clubs to let them know that we were eager and more than prepared to come and blow the roof off of the place when the time is right.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are known for showing up and starting a party! Since we are a DJ duo, we already separate ourselves from a lot of DJs in that way. We run the show as a team with Dom running the microphone/crowd control and Jayden running the tables/mixes and the cool thing is whenever we want to switch it up and switch spots, we trust each other enough to let the other take control. We don’t just DJ for people, we put on a show and we provide an experience for people. We love getting the crowd involved and having a ton of interaction with them because, without them, we wouldn’t be doing/where we are right now. That’s why we always bring shirts, tapestries, stickers, etc to hand out while we perform for our people.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
The core of Sotally Tober is to make sure that we are having fun because that’s why we started doing what we do in the first place. when we stop having fun is when we know we are doing something wrong and we never want to lose sight on why we started DJing in the first place. The second thing that matters to us is what our fans think. We want to make sure that any time we perform for people regardless if it’s at a club, wedding, or even somebody’s homecoming dance (and yes, we have been offered to DJ that kind of event) that they leave talking about what they saw and we want them to pass it on to people as one of the best times of their life and keep them coming back.
