Rising Stars: Meet Sophie Grey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophie Grey.

Hi Sophie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started playing classical piano at 4 years old and have played ever since. I graduated from the University of Southern California and majored in Popular Music, where I studied piano and songwriting with Patrice Rushen. I have always enjoyed writing, playing, singing, and producing music, and I recently released my debut album, “Grise,” last month under my artist name Sophie Grey.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing is easy in life, but music is my passion and the hard work that I do for my passion makes me not think of it as work but instead I think of it as fun. Music is my life, and as I was writing the songs on my album, hours passed by and felt like minutes. Time does fly when you enjoy what you are doing, and that’s how I feel when doing music.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a writer, producer, arranger, singer/songwriter, instrumentalist, but overall, an artist. I’ve utilized all these skills for my songs on my album “Grise.” This new album represents me entirely through the lyrics, production, and style. My music is Alternative Pop music, with influences from 80’s rock/pop, hip hop, and alternative rock- my music is for everyone. One song off the album that I love is called “Change.” The lyrics are empowering and can inspire listeners in different ways, as I believe that we can all relate to changes in life, whether those changes may be physical or emotional. I love creating music that connects people and creates a sense of community.

We’d like to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
While luck is important, I’ve gotten to where I am now from the passion and hard work I’ve put into my music. I love music and will continuously pursue it because it makes me most happy in this world. I am lucky to have music in my life.
