Rising Stars: Meet Shay Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shay Moore.

Hi Shay, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my radio career as an intern my junior year in college at HBCU Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC. After my internship was completed, my mentor and supervisor Sheila Stewart talked to the boss of the radio station and got him to actually hire me as a part-time personality. Six states and nine radio stations later, I’m here in Kansas City hosting a morning show on the oldest Black-owned radio station in the country.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The radio industry is the definition of a change environment. That is part of why I love it so much and equally one of the things I despise about it. I’ve been fired three times during my career, but through that adversity it taught me that I’m actually pretty good at what I do because I’ve been able to get the next opportunity and the next opportunity and the next opportunity despite setbacks.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a radio personality, host, podcaster and a voice actor. I entertain with my personality and voice. I’ve had the opportunity to work for ten radio stations across the US. I’ve voiced four anime cartoons, voiced the character Rebecca in “The Walking Dead” video game. I’ve voiced audiobooks and have voiced thousands of local, regional and national commercial campaigns. What I’m most proud of is being able to maintain this career for as long as I have!

What sets me apart from others is my work ethic. Others may have better personalities, maybe smarter or more beautiful; but NO ONE WILL OUTWORK ME. That’s my secret. Hard ass work!

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Be curious and stay curious. Life can take you in unimaginable places if you’re open to what can happen every day you get an opportunity to live.
