Rising Stars: Meet Ronald Hawthorne

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ronald Hawthorne.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always been active in sports. I started wrestling when I was three and wrestled throughout middle school, high school, and college. I’ve also been practicing and competing in Judo ever since I was eleven years old.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall? And if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s definitely been filled with its challenges — from persevering through being legally blind, keeping myself motivated, and determined to never let anything hold me back or stop me from competing at the highest level.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a judo Paralympian. I’ve traveled to many countries, winning medals in tournaments. To name a few places I’ve competed in, I’ve been to Japan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Korea, and Brazil, etc.. I’ve won over numerous medals all around the world and also competed in the 2012 London Paralympics.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I wouldn’t necessarily call it luck. I would say that I worked very hard to get where I’m at through stiff discipline, hard training, and staying humble.
