Today we’d like to introduce you to Patty Warren.
Hi Patty, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ll try to be brief as it was a windy road; however, my north star has always been a passion for wanting to help people and make them feel better. One key detail I think helps set up my background is that I have suffered from psoriasis for decades. My career started out as a Labor & Delivery nurse. After starting my own family I began to struggle with the long shifts and holidays being away from my two young kids. My parents are both entrepreneurs as are both of my in-laws. My husband has always had a strong desire to own his own business. All of these details converged when during my second pregnancy my psoriasis flared yet again and my OBGYN recommended I start tanning as therapy since she was not comfortable with the typical steroid use for treatment. After starting tanning as treatment for my psoriasis my skin was clear for years for the very first time and I fell in love with the affordable, natural relief it provided. A conversation with my husband, Brandon, about getting a tanning bed for personal use quickly turned into why don’t we open a tanning salon. Burn out from my long, stressful nursing shifts gave way to fantasizing about what it would be like to actually open our own business. Then after tons of research in 2011 we opened Image Sun Tanning in Blue Springs. Image Sun was a franchise originally (we bought out of that in 2021). After having some experience behind us and being successful with that business we were able to buy the building we are in. Through the years we became knowledgeable with infrared saunas and red light therapy as well. With four athletic kids we also were familiar with cold plunge. During covid I developed a personal routine with cold plunging for anxiety relief. Also during that time we could tell that society was becoming increasingly interested in natural preventative and treatment options. With lots of guided prayer and meditation we dreamed up Tru Elements. Tru Elements is the perfect combination of providing natural safe modalities that are effective for helping people physically and mentally feel so much better in our crazy toxic filled environment that we live in today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been more challenging than we originally thought it would be. There are not very many similar business models that exist and even fewer did during our planning phase. Creating brand awareness and educating clients on what we provide is a great deal harder for a brand new business than it was for our tanning salon. Also finding the right insurance company to understand what we offer and insure us was a process.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a business owner many find that employees are the most challenging. I personally find it the most rewarding aspect. Our love and appreciation for our clients is a cornerstone of what we do. Over the years we realized the importance of finding the right employees who are able to portray that from us to our clients is key. Finding the right people with the right energy has lead to a great deal of our success. It took time to figure this out along the way but as we were able to fill our staff with the right people it has allowed us to rely on them more. Plus I really find joy and helping to develop valuable skill sets in others. We are big on structure, education, growth, goals, and providing the best customer service possible.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
We love collaborating with other businesses. We are hosting a private event next month with a local yoga studio. The yoga clients get to come in and try a service for free and we are providing exclusive discounts and promotions to them. We love hosting events like this where potential clients can come in and get all the information and learn about what we offer. We also partner with a local fitness studio. With them we both help educate on the benefits of recovery practices for their fitness journey. She has brought in her InBody scan for our clients to track their results as well. We really enjoy working with other local businesses and supporting each other. Being a local small start up business we don’t have the brand recognition or the franchise budget that others have. So simply leaving us a google review or following us on social media and liking/sharing post helps to get our name out there helps greatly. Tru Elements provides services that everyone can benefit from in one way or another. The four main things our client’s are looking for are stress relief, pain management, weight loss, and over all long term health.
