Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Woolam.
Hi Patrick, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started playing music when I was about 6 years old. Both my parents were theater majors. My Mom went on to be a radio DJ here in KC for 30 years and my dad was a musician/guitarist from Nashville, TN that toured theater productions across the country, so music was always a huge part of our household growing up.
I took piano lessons for about 6 years at a young age, but around 8 years old I picked up one of my Dads guitars and never put it down. My mom would bring home classic rock records from the radio station when I was younger and I’ll never forget hearing the Jimi Hendrix Axis Bold As Love record for the first time. That’s when I really knew I wanted to be guitarist and I never looked back.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being an artist hasn’t been a smooth road, and I feel like thats an important factor in shaping an artist. I went through anything from band breakups throughout high school, relationship break ups due to my music career, all the way to a 3 year court case with a label trying to take the publishing from some of my earlier original music. So no, it hasn’t been easy but I learned more about the industy and myself in those years than I ever could have imagined.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Right now my full time job is being the band leader for a group in KC called Lost Wax. We specialize in the luxury events space as a high energy mash up cover band that plays weddings and corperate events, all the way to being the house band for the NFL Draft here in KC and house band for HBO Max’s latest series Second Chance Stage that was also filmed here in KC.
But my true passion is what I’ve been after since high school which is being a singer/songwriter. I’ve put out a couple EPs through the years and am currently working on recording a new one as we speak!
How do you think about happiness?
My kids and family. They are the reason I’m out chasing “The Dream” of being a working musician every single day. I love showing them that if you’re passionate and work hard enough at something you love you’ll never have to work a day in your life.
