Today we’d like to introduce you to Ophelia Bennett.
Hi Ophelia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started making dice as a hobby where I challenged myself to make specific sets for specific characters. I had these ideas for dice that I just wanted to see and challenge myself to make possible. So with some encouragement and starting materials from friends, family, and my husband, I began just experimenting and mixing different materials. Over time I upgraded more and more until one day I looked at my work and realized I wanted to share my art with others.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been relatively smooth, my biggest hurdles have just been balancing my full time day job with my art, as well as my own mental health issues clouding my ability to see my work more objectively. I am my own biggest critic still, but I can admit where I’ve grown and improved.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make handmade dice from resin. I specialize in making pieces with hand-painted inclusions as well as using colorants from smaller businesses with more unique colors than most others I’ve seen. I’m most proud of my hand painted inclusion dice, I paint every detail myself in as much detail as I can.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I spend hours putting my all into every single die I make, and I appreciate those who have supported me in these endeavors, even just a kind word in passing at an event. I hope to keep making my dice better and better, and look forward to meeting even more people at events moving forward!
