Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Moreno-Whipple.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began my career in photography in 2006 and ran a business called Vixen Pin-Up Photography for nearly 15 years. During the pandemic, I experienced a profound period of loss and transition—I lost my mother and faced my own health challenges, which ultimately led me to close my studio.
After that chapter, I stepped into the wig and alternative hair industry, where I began working closely with women experiencing medical hair loss due to chemotherapy, alopecia, and other conditions. That work became deeply meaningful to me. It allowed me not only to support others during vulnerable moments, but also gave me space to heal and rebuild a sense of balance in my own life.
During that time, I also deepened my spiritual practice—exploring energy work and becoming a dedicated meditator. After about four years away from photography, I found myself missing it, but I knew I wanted to return to it in a more intentional and purpose-driven way.
One evening, while talking with a close friend, I wondered if there might be a way to combine my background in photography with the healing and spiritual work I had been drawn to. I kept envisioning immersive, creative experiences—photo retreats centered around healing, empowerment, and celebrating the divine feminine through fantasy-inspired imagery. At the same time, my friend Lindsey was feeling called to create a space focused on pleasure, magick, and personal reclamation.
That conversation became a turning point. It felt like everything clicked into place, and together we created Aphrodite’s Atrium.
Today, we host monthly half-day retreats designed to help women reconnect with their inner muse. Through guided meditation, intention setting, group ritual, spell work, and a goddess-inspired photoshoot, we offer a space for self-discovery, empowerment, and creative expression. It has been an incredibly meaningful journey, and we’re excited to continue growing and sharing this work with our community.
My journey as a creative has always been deeply rooted in capturing the essence of the human experience, and this next chapter is perhaps the most exciting one yet. I am thrilled to share that I am currently in the process of reopening my photography studio, Vixen Studio KC.
This venture is a true labor of love that I own and operate alongside my husband, Richard Whipple. We are also incredibly fortunate to have Lindsey on our team, whose talent and dedication in assisting with our boudoir and pinup sessions bring a unique magic to every shoot. We have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure everything is perfect, and we are on track to be fully reopened for bookings by the end of this summer. Reinvigorating this space and preparing to welcome our clients back into the studio has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and I cannot wait to see the stories we will capture in this new season.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road, and in retrospect, I don’t think it was meant to be. The past five years have been an incredibly intense season of life, marked by profound challenges—from navigating a six-month professional scam early on to enduring the devastating loss of my mother and supporting my husband through a life-threatening illness.
Despite these hardships, I wouldn’t change a thing. These experiences forced me to confront life’s fragility and have ultimately shaped me into a more thoughtful, empathetic, and compassionate person. I am truly grateful for the growth that emerged from those struggles, as they have taught me how to lead with kindness in a world that deeply needs it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a fantasy glamour photographer, content creator, educator, and wig hairstylist. Across all of my work, I am known for a strong sense of visual storytelling—creating imagery that is vibrant, imaginative, and intentional, with a meticulous attention to detail that ties every element together.
In my photography career, I have been incredibly fortunate to collaborate with a wide range of inspiring models and performers to create editorial work that I am deeply proud of. My years spent touring stand out as some of the most meaningful and creatively fulfilling experiences I have had behind the camera; those moments shaped not only my personal style but also my deep appreciation for the unique artistry and individuality each person brings to a shoot.
What truly sets my work apart is my eye for detail and the depth of inspiration I draw from. I am a lifelong film and art enthusiast, and those influences naturally weave their way into my creative process. This allows me to build immersive, narrative-driven worlds that elevate my subjects and resonate with viewers on a deeper level.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was a bit of a strange, imaginative kid—in the best way. I spent hours baking in my Easy-Bake Oven, making glowing pictures on my Lite-Brite, or listening to Elton John on a little record player with a rainbow on top. I’ve always been drawn to color, storytelling, and creating my own little worlds.
My childhood wasn’t entirely conventional. My mom struggled with her own challenges, and I was home from school more than most kids. I ended up spending a lot of time immersed in music, MTV, and classic films—sometimes ones I was probably a little too young to be watching. I think that gave me an “old soul” perspective early on, like I was trying to understand the world from a more grown-up lens before I really needed to.
I also took on a sense of responsibility at a young age, helping care for my family, which could feel isolating at times. But as I got older, I found my way into music and art, and eventually into a group of wonderfully unconventional friends who became my chosen family. They carried me through some of my hardest years and helped shape the creative person I am today.
