Rising Stars: Meet Murad Baheyadeen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Murad Baheyadeen.

Hi Murad, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was raised in the inner city during a very, very rough time of gangs, violence and especially drugs that ravaged our neighborhood. During those times, my parents Majeeda and Aasim Baheyadeen believed it necessary to be proactive in their approach to combat the negative things around us with positive, subsequently they became Co-Founders of AD HOC Group Against Crime in during so that is where they insisted on the children also being involved and that’s where I got my first taste of what it’s like when you give back and what that incredible feeling is and what positive impact we can have on people in general if we care to share love with others in need. Naturally years later, after countless times and experiences of life accomplishments and challenges, we started MOVE/LOVE Organization (Men/Ladies of Vision and Empowerment) that focuses on mentoring our underserved youth and mostly prevention by investing in our community children.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The old saying that God will find a way is so true because as far as with myself working 60 hrs a week plus being a Union Steward on my job keeps me constantly busy and having to always encourage others to help find time to give back because it’s so desperately needed but I would say for the organization our biggest challenge has been to reach the parents of our future generation and to really help them understand that we are in this together and it takes a village and sometimes tremendous effort or at the least time that is necessary to cultivate a child.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve been working for UPS for 35 years. I started in 1986, one month after I graduated high school after working various positions throughout the company. I’ve been driving since 1994. I gained the respect of my Co-Workers and became a Union Steward 2010 to help workers stay in good standing with the company. I joined our job Safely Committee five years ago because I recognized a need for us as a worker to re commit our attention on putting Safely first… I’m most proud of the mutual respect I get from my Employer and the Employees on my job. What sets me apart I believe is the ability to connect with people in general for the betterment of whatever the situation is or no matter how difficult the times are.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
The best way to collaborate with me is to go to our website MOVELOVEKC.org and research some of the things we do in our communities or sign up as a volunteer so we can help cultivate the next generation and to help Empower each other along the way.

By no means am I surprised. Murad has been a leader, friend, and overall good person, since I met him the late 80s. Has a beautiful family. I’m proud of Murad.
