Today we’d like to introduce you to Leo Posch.
Hi Leo, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Having always been curious about how things work, I like to take things apart and put them back together. This led to repairing personal guitars, banjos, and mandolins, which led to repairing for friends and so on. Then when I wanted a better banjo than I could afford, I decided it was time to build for myself. Similarly, my wife, Susan, and I built our own home, dedicated part of it as shop space, and expanded the stringed instrument repair business to include building guitars.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Deciding to go on your own can be scary. Building a house and garage is much more physically demanding than building guitars. A bicycling accident in 2013 set me back for quite a while and is still causing challenges. Social distancing isn’t too hard when you always work at home alone.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Stringed instrument (guitar, banjo, mandolin primarily) building and repair/restoration. Personal, exacting, attention to detail. Most clients become friends. My specialty is probably listening with an open mind to clients to satisfy them as much as possible, whether a small adjustment or a brand new instrument.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Curious about everything.
