Rising Stars: Meet Kia Peterson of Johnson County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kia Peterson.

Hi Kia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I was attending Wichita State University- I would enjoy helping plan and organize events
and parties for my sorority ( Alpha Kappa Alpha) and other college friends.
Then I helped plan a few weddings and events and loved the process of it.
I took a break from event planning when I moved back to the KC area.
I got married and had my daughter. I was focused on my career in the hotel industry.
After awhile- I started thinking about my passions in life, so I started planning friend’s
birthdays and small events. Then I had a friend who needed a day of wedding planner,
so, I stepped in to help. After Covid, I decided life is short and I should do things I enjoy.
So, I started planning events- part time. I have been focused on planning all kind of events
that will help people celebrate special moments in life.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The main struggle is working a full time job- while I am working on my event business.
There is never enough time in the day to get everything done.
I am hoping in the next few years- to operate my business full time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an event planner. I plan out and coordinate events for clients.
I specialize in all events, big and small.
I am most proud of planning my 20 year wedding anniversary in Belize.
I try to add fun to the planning process.

What’s next?
I plan on do more marketing and attending trade shows and wedding expos.
