Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelyn Suter.
Hi Katelyn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started doing cookies for fun when I was in dental school as a nice creative outlet. When I moved back home to KC in the summer of 2018, a few people reached out about orders, so I thought, “Hey, why not?” And I started Kate’s Cookies KC on Instagram and then it just took off from there!
Custom cookies were just starting to become popular, so I kinda got into it at the perfect time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Struggling to find a balance for this side business is the trickiest part. It is a lot of work especially with being a dentist and a mother of two. Therefore, time management and figuring out how to keep doing all the things that I love are challenging!
Due to my schedule, I usually start decorating around 8 pm at night finishing anywhere from 11 to 3 am, so that makes for some very very early mornings, and that’s not including the designing, making of the dough, baking, making icing, mixing the colors and so much more that goes on throughout the week.
I think I have really found my groove over the last six months and it allows me to enjoy all the different aspects of my life, career, and cookies.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a custom cookie creator that specializes in luxury custom cookies for any event! I am known for the level of art and detail that I put into my cookie sets. I am most proud of the way I have been able to find my style and really put my mark on the cookie world.
I would love to think that what sets me apart is that my cookies taste even better than they look. It took me months and months to perfect my recipes and I am very proud of them!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
As I have said, I am a dentist here in KC, so I do cookies on the side. With that being said, I would love to keep making cookies and content for other “cookiers” and customers to enjoy! I plan on doing this for as long as I can. In the next year or so, I plan on starting cookie classes, online and hopefully in person soon!
