Hi Karen, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started KK & Annie’s Empowering candles because I love candles! But, so many have paraffin in them and I wanted cleaner non toxic candles. I started experimenting making Coconut and Olive oil candles that are non toxic. I named my company after my Granddaughters. I want them to grow up and be strong women so I hope that by starting my own company at my age which has expanded that they will see they can do many things by strength and believing in yourself.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Many companies make candles. It’s easy to say the market is saturated and give up. I have at times had those thoughts, but I have powered on, by offering many other products. An example is my Chiefs Dough Bowls. I asked a friend if could make the Bowls and I fill them with my candle wax. It has been a great hit.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I started my business as a side hustle. I have recently retired and can now give more time to my passion which is creating safe fragrances in the home setting.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I have had the incredible luck to meet many creators and vendors. I have found that people who work their passions are giving, kind and trustworthy
