Today we’d like to introduce you to Kara Moore.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Love, Coffee originated from a random phone call and an empty store front about 10 years ago. My husband and a friend had a conversation about the space and the rest is history. Build out began right away and we opened our doors in October of 2017.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We opened with a core group of people who knew we were more than a coffee shop. It has been at the foundation of everything we do to provide a space where people feel love. That goes without saying that there has been growth along the way. As any business does, we have faced staffing -and training issues, but our biggest pivot was when Covid hit. We adjusted our model and continued to live out of belief of providing a space for customers, just in a different fashion.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a family owned shop, I came from a background of education and my husband grew up in the restaurant business. We didn’t have a manual of how to build Love, just grit and determination. I had a short stint in college working at a big box coffee shop and loved the relationships build with customers. My husband has had success in creating a recognized brand, Martin City Brewing Company.
At Love, we pride ourselves on local. We roast our own coffee, make our own pastries, and create a space for many young employees to grow and develop their own personal skill sets.
The thing I am most proud of is the connections and links we have built in the community. Whether it is the staff that graduates and moves on and then we get to have their sibling work with us or the customers who move away and always make a point to come back to say hi or the sacred space our shop holds for some of our customers with their beloved, it is more than coffee.
Being a mom to 4 amazing humans in my personal accomplishment and greatest gifts of my life. They have been part of the journey and have such an admiration of the coffee shop. They love coming in, working or “playing coffee shop”. They are my true “why” in life.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck…. I am not sure luck has had anything to do with our success. I believe our neighborhood feel and location has been our biggest asset for us.
