Rising Stars: Meet Juliana Zolotor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juliana Zolotor.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I attended Paul Mitchell nine years ago. When going to cosmetology school, I worked for Lancôme and found a love for makeup! I decided after graduating cosmetology school I wanted to offer makeup services so I started doing makeup for weddings. I then ventured into special effects makeup. I am completely self-taught. I have spent many hours watching YouTube videos and following other makeup artist.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been many struggles. I have two kids so I always have to balance my time between being a mom and a business owner. There have been periods of I even stopped taking clients and only did makeup on close friends and family. It’s very expensive becoming a makeup artist. I have spent thousands of dollars on my kit and equipment and I’m forever purchasing the latest and greats products. So sometimes, the payoff has been very small for all my hard work.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a makeup artist who specializes in bridal makeup. I have perfected the soft glam look. I also do special effects makeup. My favorite is to do injury and wound makeup. I love special effects because it gives me the opportunity to work with different types of makeup I don’t use day to day.

What are your plans for the future?
I plan to hopefully grow and work with more photographers. I would love to do makeup for some small local film productions.
