Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Hahn.
Hi Jenny, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a visual artist and workshop facilitator from the Midwest who captures the inward journey through bold expression and a vibrant acrylic palette, reflecting themes of nature, color, spiritual awakening and the Divine Feminine. I grew up knowing fairly well by a young age that I wanted to be an artist. I studied illustration at the Kansas City Art Institute, and although I was a high-achieving student, I struggled with debilitating self-doubt and anxiety that affected my health and led to anorexia. Part of my recovery involved using painting as a tool for mindfulness and self-discovery in order to find self-compassion, wholeness and my own soul’s expression. The practices of insight meditation and process painting are still the foundations of my well-being today.
Over the last two decades, I’ve grown to facilitate workshops for individuals and groups across the country, co-founding Creative Nectar Studio in 2011 with fellow artist and teacher Stephanie Gray. At the same time, I’ve exhibited my studio work in galleries and other venues across the US and am happy to say that my original paintings and gicleé prints are now collected worldwide as well as licensed for book covers, calendars and other inspirational products.
What I’m most excited about right now is that I recently partnered with Jessica Ricchetti, an Energy Alchemist and author living in Asheville, NC, to co-create a deck of Oracle cards based on self-discovery and shadow work that utilizes 20 years worth of my raw, heartfelt artwork.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
As a recovering perfectionist, my biggest obstacle to success has always been myself. My own self-doubt, fear and procrastination that tries to protect me and keep me from taking big risks that might involve failure.
Part of my return to wholeness – and ultimately my success – has been to work with my own “shadow”, the less-than-desirable parts of me that I’ve disowned in an attempt to fit a particular image. The shame, the rage, the laziness, the “ugly” aspects… I’ve learned to embrace these parts of my experience like I would a child, rather than judging them and stuffing them down. They all deserve to be seen and heard… and they all have something important to share.
My work in overcoming the critical voices in my head and allowing my light to shine now allows me to help others to do the same! I believe we are all meant to shine in our own unique way. The life-force energy of the creative flow is available to every one of us, artist or not, and leads to greater vitality, joy and soul-satisfaction.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m thrilled to announce the release of the Wisdom of the Shadow: Oracle for Self-Discovery, Soul Work & Transformation. Each card in this 44-card Oracle deck and book set is a portal to the deeper richness buried within. The vibrant artwork on each card was curated from my personal collection of healing paintings and process work, both in acrylic and tempera paint. The accompanying guidebook was ceremonially written by my dear soul-sister Jessica Ricchetti, with each page an invitation to amplify inner wisdom through Core Essence transmissions, contemplations and rituals to integrate the messages in an embodied way.
This soul collaboration is very near and dear to my heart. Jessica and I have been receiving rave reviews from customers from around the world on how beautiful, powerful, and truly transformative this Oracle is. Shadow work is more important than ever as we’re called to recover that which has been buried, repressed or forgotten. My prayer is that this Oracle (and the artwork within it) supports deep transformation for all who engage it.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
