Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaylan Adlam.
Hi Jaylan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I initially got a following through being a cast member on MTV’s Are You The One 5th season. Shortly after I moved from Atlanta to KC for work.
After a couple of years here, one of my best friends, many people know him as 5, suggested I try and take modeling seriously. I took it on as both a chance to push myself in a creative way and as an opportunity to grow.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The culture of creatives here has been extremely welcoming. People have been eager to work with me and connect me with others, which has helped me network very quickly and get amazing opportunities with some dope individuals. I’m still very raw and have a lot to work on to grow my modeling career, but I learn from every experience. I enjoy learning from others in the community and abroad.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I model for expressing my creative brain and do analyst relations work as a day job. I specialize in creative portraits and fashion, but I’m still very new to it all. I’m most known for my television role and my work with 5. I’m most proud of my great choice in the people around me. Wouldn’t be here without them, they all motivate and inspire me. I think what sets me apart from others is my perspective, only I have ever seen things through my eyes and I try and make that cultivated experience tangible in my creative expression. I try to give you bits of myself.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Be confident and unafraid to reach out to others. They may not be interested or it may not be a fit, but the worst you can do is learn. So take calculated opportunities, and work with people you trust.
