Rising Stars: Meet James Blecher III of Lenexa

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Blecher III.

Hi James, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born here in Olathe KS. I started out working for my dad at the age of 12 years old. I really started to get good at the trade once I reached my late teens. All the while starting many small little businesses (Vending, MLMs landscaping), and working multiple jobs. I got kicked out of Berean Christian six week before graduating, went to college to be a cop and after my second failed semester I realized college was not a good avenue for me. So, I decided I should become partners with my dad (Big Jim) who has been hanging sheetrock for over 51 years, and is still going today. He owns and operates B&W Drywall Inc. We would be the best sheetrock hanging company around! My dad said he loved me but would never be my partner. He did however assure me that he would always give me work as long as he had work to do. That was very assuring and loving of him. (Today we partner but he still owns his Company and I have mine.. LOL!)

At that point my eyes started looking beyond just installing sheetrock and I wondered what it would look like to start doing all of the sheetrock process from start to finish. I took on side jobs with my uncle Robert Cox (R&R drywall) and learned the trade more fully. The Lord Jesus brought many people to my life to lend to my learning the art of finishing. I became what some would call a technician business owner.. Rarely motivated to make big dollars but loved the idea of trying hard things. I have been given the gift of this trade and the desire to make strong relationships in the trade. I tell many builders and remodelers that we win together and lose together. When they grow it forces us to grow.

I am continuing to grow into a business owner who looks beyond the day to day grind. I have by no means arrived but I am striving to get better in every facet of my life, and help others to achieve their goals. Ultimately I want to bring glory to God in everything I do.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The people you encounter as a business owner and in the drywall trade are a colorful bunch. The Lord has brought many down and outs in my life. Standing with them through the trials and holding some of their hands through poverty, sickness, loss, and even to death has been some of the most challenging and rewarding experiences I have faced.
Not to mention the countless times watching us barely make payroll because money was so tight. We are a debt free company. This can be incredibly challenging but the Lord provides every time..

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are Drywall specialists, We basically put skin on the bones inside a home. We make it ready for paint.
We specialize in a quality drywall finish and textures. Ultimately delivering a memorable experience with the hope that the client feels like we care bout them and their project.
I am proud of the Lord giving us favor and grace with so many people we come in contact with. The group of people I work with from day to day is so awesome, and I can’t wait to see how we all grow together.

I would say maybe a couple defining characteristics of this company is the fact that we are so committed to delivering a pleasurable experience with a constant pursuit to get better. Mixed with making sure the customer knows we are for them and won’t run when problems or challenges arise.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
hanging out with my friends and family!
