Rising Stars: Meet Jacob & Marjorie Hunt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob & Marjorie Hunt.

Hi Jacob & Marjorie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We have made our own salsa for years because we simply love good craft salsa. Every time we had a gathering, our homemade salsa was always requested by friends and family. When our daughter was two years old, she wouldn’t eat anyone else’s salsa but dads. So we figured if a picky two years old loved our salsa, we must be on to something good! Knowing we had something unique to offer, we ventured out to find someone local who could help us produce our salsa. As a husband and wife duo who are both from Kansas City, it was important to us to have our product made here locally. Our brand was not only inspired by our toddler, but our love to travel especially south of the border.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Replicating our salsa on a large scale was much more of a challenge than initially thought. It was important to keep both the zest and spice that we had when making it in our own small kitchen. At one point into the R&D process, we were concerned that we could not replicate the flavor that we loved into a larger scale. To add to the challenge, throw in a pandemic where we had limited access to the manufacturing process thus making it more difficult to perfect the taste. Needless to say, we finally got there! In addition, supply chains were halted due to the pandemic creating other unique challenges. After many months of unforeseen challenges and dozens of test batches to perfect the taste, we were finally ready for our salsa to go into production.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Our daytime jobs are in healthcare, specifically in pharmacy and nursing. It took a lot of dedication and perseverance to get to where we are today in our careers. Although healthcare can be very demanding, it is also rewarding. We are most proud of the fact that everyday, we get to positively impact someone’s life in a way we didn’t know we could.
