Rising Stars: Meet Imani Blunt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Imani Blunt.

Hi Imani, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I was younger, I always knew I was different. When I was asked “what do you want to be when you grow up?” It was never a doctor, lawyer or anything boring like that. I always wanted to be an actress, a singer, an entrepreneur, a model… I literally wanted to be everything! My grandma (Rip), aunts, mom and other family would always have me do my “model walk.” As I got older and became a mom, my dreams only slightly changed and I started to focus more on my dream of becoming an entrepreneur and really just prioritizing the things I really wanted to do to avoid becoming overwhelmed. The hardest thing to do was decide what type of business to start because I have so many interests. But I’ve always been the type to wear little robes, lingerie, etc. on nights where I just want to feel sexy even if I’m in the house by myself and I want other women to be able to feel like that too. Looking good helps you feel good, and I think everybody wants to feel good.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely has NOT been an easy road. I grew up the oldest of five siblings. As a kid, even though I had big dreams I was really insecure and didn’t believe in myself or my power. I also had on and off periods of depression and anxiety, and it was so bad that I would self-sabotage myself and end up flaking out on really good opportunities because I was convinced that I would screw it up anyways. It wasn’t until I discovered spirituality that I really overcame all the issues that I dealt with and began to understand the power of your mind and the way it can affect your real life.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I honestly do a little bit of everything. I have a business, I. Marcella Collection which is a sleepwear line. I’m also in the process of opening my second business, Glossed, which is an all natural handmade lipgloss line, which I’m expecting to launch in 2022. Perfecting lipgloss to sell is a lot more difficult than simply making lipgloss just for myself. In addition to that, I also bartend and do VIP bottle service for a club that’s opening soon in the city. I’m a manager for a promotion company that does events both here and in Houston, TX primarily. And last but not least, I work a regular 9-5 job on weekdays at a popular financial company. I also have a YouTube channel with around 2400 subscribers. I do receive a lot of inquiries for modeling opportunities in other states, and in 2022 I think I’ll start accepting some of the opportunities, but my businesses are my first priority. I’m most proud of overcoming my anxiety and following through with the opportunities presented to me because if I had not done that, I wouldn’t be where I’m at today. It’s not an easy thing to do! What sets me apart from others is my confidence. I sincerely believe I can accomplish anything I want to do, with no second question about it.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Just a little background, I am 23 years old and I also have a two years old son named Major. Outside of working, I enjoy reading, eating new foods, traveling, and exploring new places.
