Rising Stars: Meet Heather Isbell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Isbell.

Hi Heather, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We are Heather and Dayton Isbell and we formed Isbell Creative after getting married in 2018. We met through a mutual friend on a road trip across the pacific northwest and have traveled to over 22 states and three countries together since! We have two beautiful children named Aspen (German Shepard mix) and Willow (Great Pyrenees). We both have full-time jobs doing graphic design + photo at T-Mobile and IT work, but we shoot photo and video work on the side for about seven years now and love every minute of it. 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Finding your place in the creative industry is never a smooth rode. Your whole job is a big comparison to other people’s work. Everyone has different opinions about what they think looks good, so there is never a right or wrong way to create. If it wasn’t for our amazing clients who keep recommending us, I probably would have let self-doubt make me quite early on.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We specialize in photography and videography but also offer branding, design and website creation. I am such a people person and I love to get along with everyone. I go into every shoot with an open mind because you never know what to expect and it’s my job to make them feel comfortable in front of the camera. When I edit, I never use the same “filter” or “present’. I edit each photo or clip individually to bring out its best qualities.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
My biggest lesson I have learned along the way is to remove your feelings from it. Every shoot I capture is different; every couple has a unique style, every company has a brand. I am there to enhance and bring their vision to life, not mine.
