Rising Stars: Meet Dori Bell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dori Bell.

Hi Dori, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began studying aromatherapy back in 2000, after a search on this new thing called the Internet revealed that I lived just a few miles from a woman who taught it. I had been feeling an overall dissatisfaction with my life and remembered how lit up I had been when smelling an essential oil a few years previously. This was before essential oils were available at Walgreen’s and diffusers were running non-stop across America.

I enrolled in a class, thinking aromatherapy would provide a distraction from the numbness and lethargy I was feeling, and ended up full-on studying it for the next 26 years. What essential oils (and subsequent study of flower essences, basic herbal care, reflexology, and more) started in me was a journey to vibrancy, creativity, and spiritual flourishing. What it didn’t start, not immediately, was a steady income source.

After 24 years of practicing aromatherapy as a side hustle, I was able to transition to it full time last year. The impact of giving it focused attention has been remarkable. I’ve turned what I thought could only be an expensive hobby into a profitable business.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The realities and hardships of daily life made it difficult to pursue my passion for aromatherapy. When you have a child and a mortgage it narrows down your income options to jobs that pay the bills. Aromatherapy isn’t an obvious money maker, so I’ve had to think way outside the box to develop it into a passion that actually makes money. It’s taken a lot of hard work, creativity, and networking.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I elevate experiences through scent. I’m known for producing high quality, effective, and beautifully packaged aromatherapy products that offer aromatic support for stress, sleep, and spirit. My workshop series, Moonlit Botanical Perfumes, gave locals the opportunity to make a natural perfume that evokes the gifts of the moon phase. I work with event planners to create scent stations and work with event spaces to create custom scent experiences for their venue. My broad and deep knowledge of essential oils and their mood-influencing properties, along with my intuitive and thoughtful approach, sets me apart from others in the space.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
If having your own custom scent created (for personal or professional use) sounds interesting to you, please reach out! I work with people across the country from my home base in Kansas. My website offers information on my services (www.theblossombar.com) and you can follow along with me on IG or FB at @theblossombar.
