Rising Stars: Meet Devin Lingenfelter of Edina, Missouri

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Lingenfelter.

Hi Devin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hi, I’m Devin Lingenfelter. I grew up on my family’s farm just outside of Edina, watching my parents, Rex and Tracie, pour their hearts into not only raising my brother and me, but into their work as a farmer and a nurse. Following in both of their footsteps, I’ve carved out a life that’s a bit of a whirlwind—I’m the owner of Rosebud’s Floral & Gift Boutique here in town and a Flight Nurse for Air Evac. When I’m not in the air or at the shop, I’m usually looking for a trail to hike, a river to kayak, or just a long, quiet walk to recharge; more likely than not, I’ve got my two dogs, Kona & Finley, right there with me. For me, there’s nothing better than exploring new places, but Edina will always be home.

My flower shop started with a simple realization that, no matter where I am, flowers have a way of drawing my attention. I love how a single arrangement can change the energy of a room, and I eventually realized that my eye for design was something I wanted to share with our community. For me, floral design isn’t just a hobby—it’s a way to help my neighbors with something they might not be able to do themselves, but it is also something that I am truly passionate about.

I opened this shop because I saw a need in our town for a florist to carry the torch. Our community has always valued and supported having a local flower shop, and I wanted to ensure that our town continued to have access to florals right here at home. Whether it’s a celebratory design, or a “just because” arrangement, I am honored to own a flower shop, that people trust, to bring their visions to life, and keep this tradition going in our town.

As I was building this dream, I knew I wanted the name to stand for something meaningful, and naming the shop after my Grandma Rose (aka “Rosebud”) was the perfect fit. As far back as I can remember, she was the heartbeat of her own antique business— managing her booths at various antique shops throughout Northeast Missouri. I grew up with the constant, familiar scent of spray paint coming from her garage as she brought old treasures back to life. She was a woman who never sat still, always having a project in motion, and a legendary “to-do” list ready for Grandpa. The spirit and ingenuity she modeled for me are the foundation of this business. Today, she is navigating the journey of Alzheimer’s, and while her memories may fade, the beauty and busy energy she brought into my life stay deeply rooted in everything we create here.

Aside from Rosebud’s, I lead a second life in the sky as an Air Evac Flight Nurse. While the environments are nothing alike, the transition from the intensity of the helicopter to the quiet sounds of the flower shop, feels natural to me. Both roles demand a calm heart, allowing me to serve our community in two very different but equally meaningful ways. Whether I’m in a flight suit, or at the heart of the flower shop, I am committed to being apart of life’s celebrations and hard days.

My love for the floral industry continues to grow everyday. I want to combine this with my love for travel and seeing other parts of the world. I hope to travel to different locations across the globe to attend floral workshops, visit flower farms that we source our flowers from, and learn about new types of florals that I do not see on a regular basis. There is always something new to learn in the floral industry from other cultures, and I want to bring those perspectives back home to our community. As I look ahead, I’m also excited to watch Rosebud’s Floral & Gift Boutique evolve; I’m working to grow our wedding and event side into its own dedicated branch of the shop. I cannot wait to see where this journey takes me!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My flower shop journey has not always been easy, and I know that there will be more hard days ahead. I try to always keep a positive mindset, and remain flexible because things may not always go as planned.
One of the hardest challenges I’ve had to navigate is the volume of work at the flower shop. There’s always something that needs doing, and there never seems to be enough hands, or hours, to get to it all. Like all small business owners, I’m wearing every hat at once, and some days that juggle is exhausting. Knowing that the to-do list never actually ends and figuring out what to tackle first, when everything feels like a priority, is a constant battle. Thankfully, I have several great employees, as well as family members, that take some of that weight off of my shoulders and keep me going; my flower shop would not be a success without them.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As the owner of Rosebud’s Floral & Gift Boutique, I am responsible for many different tasks other than designing arrangements. I educate, give direction, and provide resources to my designers so that we can produce arrangements that are appealing to the eye. I manage the business’s income and expenses, ensuring the business is sustainable and we are able to uphold quality product and service. Planning logistics is a large part of making sure an event goes smoothly; this includes ensuring clear communication with the customer, developing a budget with the customer, ordering and managing inventory, creating timelines for designing arrangements, mapping out mechanics of floral pieces, thinking about weather considerations, and delivery of event florals. I also keep up with marketing, branding, and trends in the floral industry.

What sets Rosebud’s apart is my refusal to follow the crowd. I do not look to see what everyone else is doing to figure out my next move, I come up with ideas that are uniquely my own. My dedication to this shop is rooted in one goal: to offer something you won’t find anywhere else. I also want to ensure your florals are of the highest quality and that the design process is carefully thought out from beginning to end.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
To me, success it isn’t defined by a single achievement, but by consistent growth across all aspects of life that result in love, happiness, and contentment. I am succeeding overall in life because I am growing my floral business, personal relationships, nursing career, as well as, my physical and mental health. Sometimes growth in one aspect is slower than in another; each person creates their own balance based on their priorities, goals, and where they are at in their life.
Ultimately, the good outweighs the bad, and I find joy in something everyday!
