Rising Stars: Meet Dakota Hughes of Canton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dakota Hughes .

Hi Dakota, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started working with a trainer when I started my football career and loved everything about the science behind working out. I loved understanding the movements and bettering my health and wellness. Once I started training a group of ladies myself, I realized I got so much more fulfillment from helping others improve their lives’ quality. I’m so grateful I get to live out this passion every day! This was when I knew I wanted to do this for my career.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been the smoothest! Personal training can be a tough gig; someone can say they want to work out, and then they suddenly text you a day later, a week later, or even a month later and say they don’t want to do it anymore. Finding the right clientele is a process that requires a lot of patience and understanding. I always want to leave an impact on someone and teach them valuable life skills — whether it’s only one session or 100. I hope always to impact them in a positive way!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a fitness coach that helps others better their lives through exercise and nutritional guidance. I’m proud that I have grown a successful small business and love going to work every day. My goal is always to make someone feel better after they leave me. Life is too short to feel anything other than happy and healthy.

I’m different from any other business because I put 100% of my efforts into each client and truly care for them. I want to see them succeed more than they want themselves. I love watching them accomplish their goals and go further than they ever thought they could. It genuinely fills my heart with so much happiness. That’s how I know I’m in this for the right reasons.

In terms of your work and the industry. What are some changes you expect to see over the next five to ten years?
I see the fitness industry continuing to grow and reaching new heights. Now more than ever, we have access to the world at our fingertips. Covid gave us a sense of online workouts and interactions with trainers worldwide. FaceTime or zoom workouts became all the rage thanks to Covid. I feel like that will forever be a form of training. People will always need to eat right and exercise! That’s why it’s so important to learn the right habits and hold yourself accountable for doing these every day!
