Meet Christine Pryor of Christine Pryor Designs
Christine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Ive always been drawn to beautiful things not in a flashy way, but in a deeply curated, meaningful way. My journey began long before I called it ‘design.’ It started in antique stores, watching how objects held stories. It evolved through working with contractors, learning what quality actually looks like, and developing a sixth sense for finding the pieces no one else can. The golden rule in my business? Never reveal your sources. I believe every client deserves a home that feels entirely their own not something bought off a showroom floor.
Thats what drew me to interior design: the hunt, the artistry, and the transformation. My work blends my love of storytelling, my eye for detail, and my commitment to never duplicating a design. Its personal. Its layered. It’s never generic.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building a creative business means constantly adapting and learning to stay grounded in uncertainty. I’ve had to start over several times – new countries, new markets, new communities. Most recently, I relocated my business from Kansas City to North Carolina, and that brought its own set of challenges: rebuilding my network, introducing my work to a new region, and finding my creative footing all over again.
But KC will always hold a special place in my heart—it shaped my eye in such a unique way. The city’s mix of grit and charm, its jazz history, the antique barns and vintage treasures I used to stumble upon… that kind of storytelling through objects is something I’ll always carry with me.
Now, being back in the mountains and so close to the coast, my design work is shifting in new ways. I’m drawing more from regional influences—Appalachian craft traditions, soft coastal palettes, historic Southern architecture. The materials and mood are changing: more natural textures, layered woods, and pieces that feel like they’ve been passed down through generations. North Carolina has its own rhythm and story, and my goal is to create spaces that feel rooted in that—warm, soulful, and deeply personal.
The road hasn’t been smooth, but it’s given me perspective—and a design sensibility that’s grounded, adaptive, and deeply connected to place.
Alright, so lets switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Christine Pryor Designs is all about thoughtful transformation creating homes that reflect who you are and how you actually live. I dont follow trends or fill rooms for the sake of filling them. Every element I bring in has a reason for being there. I manage the design process end to-end from layout to sourcing to styling with a refined eye and relentless attention to detail. What truly sets me apart is how I source: I work privately, selectively, and globally. The result is a curated blend of old, new, and totally unexpected. My work is for people who want their homes to feel collected, not copied.
Let’s talk about your city what do you love? What do you not love?
Kansas City has this understated cool factor its warm, welcoming, and full of surprises. Whether youve lived here your whole life or just found your way here recently, theres something about this city that makes you feel like you belong. I love the architectural variety: from charming old bungalows to modern lofts and mid-century gems, theres so much potential to explore. Whats not to love? But KC keeps me inspired in new ways especially when Im digging through antique barns or stumbling across a vintage treasure. This place has stories to tell you just have to know where to look.
