Today we’d like to introduce you to Chloe Sheridan.
Hi Chloe, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a nurturer by birth and a caregiver by trade. I grew up with incredible examples being the oldest of two of a single mom who has sisters who all raised their babies together. I always start with that background because it made me who I am today—raised by a pack of single solid mamas that did everything for themselves. Growing up, I had trouble in school because of my neurodivergence; the system wasn’t working for me, and my free spirit decided to drop out of high school and travel the country. I started making jewelry to sell at shows. I always had an entrepreneurial spark in me but needed something more stable, and with very few plans, I found a job as a caregiver, something natural to me and something I could do anywhere. Over those years, I developed tremendous experience with people who are neurodivergent and or suffer from depression and anxiety and hoarding tendencies. I not only cared for their physical well-being but also worked with them to organize their daily lives with bills, errands, meal planning, and prepping, along with caring for their space and keeping a clean, tidy home. As much as I loved my clients, I was hardly surviving on caregiving wages. The emotional labor alone is taxing on one’s soul, and as rewarding as the work is, it isn’t sustainable. I knew I had to share my gift and create my own business. I want to be accessible to those in need, so I work on a sliding scale and take clients at lower rates when I have the capacity. I knew my empathetic and compassionate soul could make a difference in people’s lives, and I have been living proof. I’ve never felt so fulfilled with such a purpose when my clients cry tears of joy because their space and mind feel lighter. I know I’m on the right path.
You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
Honestly, I’m still in disbelief at how fast my business started booming. Sometimes it’s because it’s such a needed service, but then I have to give credit to being born and raised in this small town of Lawrence and being super socially connected helped tremendously. One day I posted on a local Facebook page, and my inbox got blown up with people wanting to book with me, and here I am, exactly one year later, and I’ve been booked Monday-Friday with at least 1 to 2 sometimes 3 clients a day. My best business advice is networking, meeting people, and making friends.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional organizer who specializes as an emotional support coach—working with people who are neurodivergent, experiencing mental health issues, experiencing disabilities, and people who have hoarding tendencies. This sets me apart from most professional organizers as I come with a mental health approach, nonjudgment, compassion, and much patience. Several psychologists have referred me to their patients, and for that, I’m very proud. Asking for help is very difficult, and allowing someone into your home is difficult. And I am honored my clients allow me into their space, and I am very proud I’ve created a safe space for my clients.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
I’ve been on TikTok lately, and there is a whole side full of cleaning and organizing self-help videos. I gather lots of tips from there! I like the podcast/ blogger named KC Davis, and her podcast is called “Struggle Care.”
