Rising Stars: Meet Chad Strong the Photographer, Missouri

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad Strong the Photographer. He share their story with us below:

Hello, I’m a self-taught photographer in the local metropolitan and surrounding area. I began with me simply wanting professional grade photos for my social-media,, which was fairly new and growing at the time. I became good at it, having a strong background in art from early childhood and quickly noticing how similar it was to drawing. It expresses what the artist sees, interprets, and processes on a canvas to convey a message, feeling, thought, or spark emotion to the viewers who experience it. Currently, I am at a level of confidence in believing in what I’m able to do (which hasn’t always been the case throughout this journey). Knowing there’s always room for growth, I’ll continue taking the necessary steps to becoming better and feeding this everyday hunger of wanting to learn more and more of what is capable behind a lens.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The most challenging thing is staying focused on one genre! I enjoy portraits (I’m comfortable taking portraits). I like taking candid photographs as well. But what I admire is landscape photography! Street photography, architecture, and astronomy too! I want to get involved in other genres. But I’m comfortable doing what I know will work. I admire portraits, but they don’t wow me much like a great landscape photograph of mountains, rivers, or a busy city street. In the middle of downtown in a big city, during rush hour traffic. Like, “who took this photograph?” how did the photographer capture it? Where was he standing at the time? What was their inspiration? How did they know where to place their camera? All of these questions and thoughts are challenging for me. I wouldn’t know where to begin. That’s one reason I enjoy portraits. As long as I have a subject, I know where everything else falls. I can visualize it all in my head, coming together like a little puzzle before even taking the first photograph.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us? What are your long-term goals, and what do you hope to achieve with your talent?
My long-term goal is to become a published photographer and maybe open a studio one day (that doesn’t sound too confident, huh). So to open a studio someday, “STUDIOS!” (dream BIG, right) haha

How would you like to impact others through your work?
The photographer is often left behind the scenes. I’m often ask, “What made you decide to pick up a camera?” Well, here’s this. I get to take what I have in my head, freeze it briefly, and show the rest of the world what I see from my perspective and point of view. Now, if that doesn’t sound super amazing, I don’t know what is! Being a photographer wasn’t popularized when I was growing up. I’ve always wanted to dabble into it but was afraid. And waited until I became an adult, to find out later I have a passion for it! So I want to impact others to try new things. Don’t be afraid of learning new skills! It’s never too late, “and you’re never too old to learn something that you may still be able to have a chance being great at!
