Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna France.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started seriously doing photography when I was in high school. I was in this program called MINDDRIVE, and that’s where I realized that I had a passion for taking photos.
When I graduated high school, I decided that I was going to major in photography. While I was in college, I came up with the name Pretty SIC Pics. SIC stands for Smile… It’s Contagious. I love to smile and laugh, and I want to share that same happiness with my clients.
The goal is to make sure that they are smiling and having fun from beginning to end throughout the session. After coming up with the name and meaning behind it, my business was born!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have had some struggles along the way. When I first started out, I didn’t know that much about editing. I knew the bare minimum and that’s what I worked with. However, every time I do a shoot, I learn something new in the process and just get better at editing each time. There is still so much to learn and discover, and I am excited to further expand my skills.
Also, I didn’t know how to price my photography. Since I started my business in college, I would charge people $50 for a shoot because I understood that sometimes money is tight while in school. After graduating, I still kept the shoots at the same price regardless of if the client was in school or not.
After meeting with a mentor, she told me that I was underselling my work and walked me through the pricing process. Now I am comfortable with what I charge, and I am willing to adjust the prices as my business continues to grow.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So I am a portrait photographer. I photograph families, graduations, kids, birthdays, etc. I enjoy shooting any type of portrait and just working with people in general. I also love photographing events because there are so many perfect candid shots that can be taken during that time.
Even though portraits are what I specialize in, I am open to doing product photography for people who may need it.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Ok, so although I started taking photography seriously in high school, I was always taking pictures when I was younger. In my house, we always had a Kodak camera lying around somewhere.
I loved walking around taking pictures of any and everything. I would take pictures of family, pets, and even myself (which was harder to do back then since there was a bright flash that went off and I couldn’t see for a few seconds afterward). The most exciting part was going to Walgreens and picking up the developments after a few days.
I loved seeing how the pictures turned out… even if they weren’t always in focus. I still have some of those pictures and I love looking at them from time to time.
