Rising Stars: Meet Brian Martveli of Olathe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Martveli.

Hi Brian, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My career with dogs started at a dog daycare. I was unsure where i wanted to go career wise. My parents one day asked me about dog training. From there i found an internship program and dove head first into dog behavior.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I had a smoothe transition into running my own business, but chronic illnesses have been a hinderance. I am a very energetic person and i love to keep busy with many things, but my body cannot keep up like it use to.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Dog Trainer/Behavioral Consultant. I work with normal happy puppies to dogs with varying behavioral concerns such as bite risks, separation anxiety, and dog aggression. I specialize in the behavioral side of dogs with a particular focus on dog to dog work. What sets me apart from other trainers is how i teach owners. I don’t believe in the vanity of dog ownership. Your dog does not need to heel while you walk, if you like that your dog jumps on you, thats fine, if you want to feed your dog table scraps go ahead! No two dogs are the same and as long as your dog is healthy, confident, happy, and their behavior doesn’t negatively impact society the behaviors they perform are up to you.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
My hope is that overtime dog training becomes more ethology focused, and that we can continue to tear down the misconceptions that dogs are pack animals and that the alpha dominace theory has been disproved in ethology.
