Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Flinn
Brian, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a child, I was naturally drawn to music. I learned to play multiple instruments like piano and drums. I was given some CDs from friends at school and stumbled into a whole new world of music. My teenage years were spent listening to electronic music and discovering that I enjoyed trying to create it. I started experimenting with beats and loops on a game software I discovered online.
As I got further into music production, I found FL Studio.This led to a ton of trial and error. Learning new skills; craft sounds, arrange compositions, and weave melodies into cohesive tracks. Each step of the journey was a learning experience, marked by moments of frustration and success.
This journey was not without its challenges, but with each new challenge, I discovered a sense of confidence and inspiration. Music became my sanctuary—a space where I could express myself freely and authentically.
As my skills grew, so did my aspirations. The opportunity to have my tracks signed to respected labels like Black Hole, VII, and Perfecto was a testament to the dedication and passion that fueled my journey. And hearing my music played on esteemed platforms like BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix was a surreal moment—a validation of the countless hours I invested in chasing my dreams.
Reflecting on my musical journey, I’m filled with gratitude for the experiences it has afforded me- the joy of sharing my music with audiences around the world. It’s a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and the transformative magic of music.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey into electronic music production wasn’t without its unique challenges, during those early days, resources were scarce. Unlike today, where countless tutorials and guides are readily available online, there were no such resources to guide aspiring producers like myself. Learning how to navigate complex software was a trial-and-error process, often involving long hours of experimentation and improvisation.There were moments of frustration when I couldn’t quite achieve the sound I envisioned or when technical hurdles seemed insurmountable.
As I delved deeper into music production, self-doubt became a constant struggle. I questioned my abilities and wondered if I had what it takes to succeed in such a competitive industry. Overcoming these doubts required a belief in myself and my passion for music.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Certainly! I’m primarily a music producer and artist, specializing in electronic music genres such as progressive house, techno, and trance.
One of the hallmarks of my music is its unique arrangements, from the way I midi out melodies. To heavy kick drums and flowing percussions. I always try to bring something new to each track I produce, almost as a diary entry into my experiences.
I have had the great opportunity to have tracks appear on compilation albums; (Brian Flinn) VII: Volume 1 and 2, (Modgen) Perfecto Fluoro Vol.5. I have appeared on Beatport’s Top Trance 100. I have performed at cities across North America and shared the stage with some amazing artists.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck, both good and bad, has played a significant role in my journey as a music producer.
One fortunate aspect has been the ability to connect with artists worldwide. Despite geographical barriers, technology has allowed me to collaborate with diverse talents, enriching my creative process and expanding my artistic horizons.
In essence, luck has shaped my journey, presenting both opportunities and challenges. It’s been a reminder to embrace the unexpected and persevere through adversity, ultimately defining the trajectory of my career.
