Today we’d like to introduce you to Breanna Hammerschmidt.
Hi Breanna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started photography in 2013 during my sophomore year in high school when I joined the photojournalism class. In my senior year of 2016, I became the editor for the photography team in my photojournalism class, meaning I was the “leader.” My primary role as the editor was coordinating with other fellow photographers in my class to obtain coverage around the high school at all the events. My love as a photographer flourished by challenging myself to grow as a leader and mentor new photographers. With the knowledge from my photojournalism classes, I started taking photos as a side gig for seniors and families. That year also challenged me to learn new photo editing skills to incorporate creativity into my photojournalism skills, and I loved it. In that year of growth with my photography, I found my passion. I loved creating and seeing my ideas come to life. That is what sparked my interest in Graphic Design. Since I was a senior in high school, I was researching colleges in Kansas that had a great graphic design program, and I came across Pittsburg State University. I enrolled as a graphic design major and a photography minor the following fall. The Graphics and Imaging Technologies department at Pittsburg State University changed my life. Classes weren’t just lectures and tests. However, they were hands-on creativity. The professors mentored and challenged me to be the best photographer and graphic designer I could be. I always dreamt of being a photographer and graphic designer in Kansas City, and after my mother passed away in 2022, I realized life is too short not to chase my dreams. Now I am living in Lenexa, Kansas, and work for a company as a graphic designer full time in the heart of Kansas City. That side gig of taking photos and being a freelance graphic designer has grown into its own business, Bre Creative Co. I am eager to give Bre Creative Co. my full-time attention and fulfill my ultimate dream.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road to creating Bre Creative Co. I have endured hardships with my mother passing, preceded in death by my late father, moving across the country, and finding my niche as a graphic designer and photographer. These hardships and struggles are what motivate me to live out the dreams that I have dreamt for years.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a photographer and graphic designer. In photography, my pride comes from genuinely loving photography and creating memories that last a lifetime. In graphic design, I love making the client’s vision and hitting it out of the ballpark of what they envision. I love to see their business grow with the use of my skillsets. I strive to push my creativity level. I would rather “reel it in” more than be a timid designer and photographer. I am always looking for new creative ways to pose my clients, angle my camera, and incorporate new ideas and inspiration into my design work. My creativity has no borders and continually grows, which sets Bre Creative Co. apart from others.
What makes you happy?
Seeing the joy in my client’s eyes by the skills I have worked long, late hours to develop makes it all worth it and gives me true happiness. I love what I do daily; Bre Creative Co. is my passion.
