Today we’d like to introduce you to Brady Payton.
Hi Brady, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started tattooing in 2005. My mom bragged about my art to some people at her church who happened to own a tattoo shop in Nashville Tennessee. They called me one day and offered me an apprenticeship.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a career artist of any type is never a smooth road. The skill building is challenging, the bar gets raised higher every time you gain in ability, and feeling satisfied with your skill as an artist never happens. Confidence grows, but the growth is never done.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a tattoo artist of 21 years, and I specialize in people and pet portraits, realism, and my own variation of neo traditional. I’m most proud of my ability to do many styles, small detail, and that is what I believe sets me apart. I can also work without the need for technology if needed.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
We’ve had many big shifts already, and I believe that changes may be more likely to occur as far as regulations rather than anything else. I would love to see a trend toward fine art and work of the old masters.
