Rising Stars: Meet Beth King of Pleasant Hill, Missouri

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth King

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My interest in color analysis started as a child when my grandmother had her colors done and I found her “Color Me Beautiful” book at her home. I knew I was an “Autumn” from the time I was five years old. Throughout my childhood, I loved fashion and really wanted to go to college to pursue fashion merchandising. That ended up not being my path and I graduated with a Marketing Management degree in 2009. Not knowing what to do, I ended up getting a job as a buyer at a manufacturing plant in hopes that maybe someday I would pivot into the fashion industry.

Fast forward fourteen years, and I climbed the latter into a Sr. Manager role. After losing my brother and having some other personal trauma in 2020, I began a healing journey which resulted me in realizing I wasn’t fulfilled in what I was doing. I can’t piece together how it happened, but I came to the realization that life is too short, and I wanted nothing more than to pursue my passion of color analysis and helping women feel their best. After having two children, facing major loss, and going through the pandemic like we all did, I lost myself for a few years. When I finally made a decision to put more effort into the way I dressed, I slowly climbed out of the funk I was in and began to show up as the woman I wanted to be. This is how the idea for Lead Through Style happened. Because I was working full time, I decided to get certified in color analysis as a way to start this endeavor on the side.

Color analysis is one piece of the personal style picture and I plan to expand into other areas such as personal shopping, styling and image consulting. I have been doing color analysis both in-person and virtually since March and it has been the most fulfilling experience! Lead Through Style is just getting started and I cannot wait to continue on this journey of entrepreneurship and dream chasing as I help other women lead in their lives through the power of personal style!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No! As a corporate girl, I have no idea what I am doing (ha!). I was not a big social media person before I started my company. It has been very humbling learning Instagram and setting up a website, etc. I am stumbling through it all, but know that I’m growing as a person!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Currently, I do seasonal color analysis for both women and men. I offer this service both in-person and virtually, which makes me different from others in the area. Doing virtual color analysis has allowed me to work with women all over the US. I also give the client the option to come to my in-home studio, or I can travel to them. Something I have enjoyed doing is “mini” color analysis sessions at boutiques. I am proud of figuring out how to make this service less lengthy for certain situations to allow me to offer a lower-cost service where I can serve more people for bachelorette parties, girls days, corporate events, etc.! The pop-up events have been fun and successful so far.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
As far as color analysis, I know it’s all over right now and it’s a “trendy” thing to do. I think the hype will die down, but I will continue to offer this as a service. Color analysis and understanding which colors look best on you is such a powerful tool in your personal style toolbox. I believe personal styling services will continue to gain popularity. As a mother in a household with children and two working parents, I personally understand the challenge of needing to outsource services to save any time possible. I think there will be an increasing need for someone to assist with shopping as people continue to add more and more to their plates. As more companies are asking employees to go back into the office in the coming years, personal branding and the way people show up to work will be important as well.
