Rising Stars: Meet Avia Ramsey of Kansas City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Avia Ramsey.

Hi Avia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
What started as me thinking I had to lose weight in order to be a model. Motivated me to workout daily, sometimes 2 and 3 times a day. That drive was seen by a director at my local Linwood YMCA who asked me if I wanted to be featured on the newest YMCA marketing materials. She warned me that my pictures would be all over the city, my answer was of course I’m a Hood Celebrity anyway. I was indeed on billboards all over the city for a year. That’s what started my modeling career and I took off from there. I soon realized that being a Plus Size Curvy Model was a thing and everybody wanted the curvy girls to be represented more. I did my first runway show, teamed up with a few models, who I still call my Model Sisters. With the help of some talented local designers and photographers my modeling career was off the ground and running full speed. I’ve been able to travel, collaborate, and learn from some amazing people. My love for fashion has expanded into designing, building, and teaching self confidence to anyone willing to learn. Most recently I’ve been able to collaborate with designers or boutique owners on creating social media content for their brands. With my love of fashion, taking pictures, and creating social media content I’ve been able to take my influence to new heights and I can’t wait to see how far I truly that this.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. Modeling is a lot of work. You don’t just wake up one day and decide to be a model and people just pick you. I’ve gotten tons of “No’s” before I’ve gotten any “Yes’s”. But you have to put in the work, put in the time. Practice and learn but take what you learn and not be afraid to use it. Don’t be afraid of rejection because that comes with it too. I believed in myself before anybody else believed in me.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Plus Size Curvy Model and I specialize in all things beauty and fashion. I am Beauty and Fashion Enthusiast, Social Media Content Creator and Marketing Specialist. Host and Media Personality, Actress, and Community Advocate. What I’m most proud of is how I turned my self confidence into a household name for myself. I didn’t keep what I learned to myself, I’ve taught others. I’ve used my influence to help push the ladies in my community out of their comfort zones and helped them believe in themselves. That’s what sets me apart from others.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was dressing up in my mothers shoes, jewelry, and makeup and putting on a show for my family.
